Entourage 2008 - Importing from Outlook 2007 ???

Hi guys, just got a MacBook Pro this week and I had reserved a copy of Office 2008 which I got today.

It's great because that's what I was waiting for to put my PC on sale 😉

BUT i was astonished to see that there's not the option to import pst files in Entourage ??

I was using Office 2007 for PC therefore Outlook 2007.
The only way we can export stuff is by creating .PST files, so you can backup all your contacts, your messages with attachements and your calendar (which are my 3 priorities).

Using the equivalent application from Microsoft but for the Mac, that is : Entourage 2008, there's not the option to import .pst ?? What the heck ??

So please guys if you know a way to export my stuff (messages, contacts and calendar) from Outlook 2007 PC to Entourage 2008 MAC, please let me know !!!

THANK YOU !!

I already looked into this tool. It is only for 2004, it does a version check and everything and refuses to run unless 2004 is detected.

I just pray MS release one for 2008, but I found that at this link: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/help.mspx?CTT=PageView&app=2&target=bd832e03-b1c0-4 923-8969-073da5f527571033

they are going out of there way to say "Entourage cannot import .pst files from Outlook for Windows." so it doesn't look good for us. 😟

You'd think by now both Outlook for Win and Entourage for Mac would be able to export and import pst files.

Hi
i had simalar problem, after a lot of doing i settled for two products, which works beautifully:
Messagesave from www.techhit.com, does all the mail conversion / transport
vSync from 4team.biz does the export of outlook contacts

both does the mbox dance, this will go directly into mail and contacts. and these you can set entourage to sync

fine and dandy.

there are other ways to get same result but these worked for me (3000 contacts, and umpteen mails maybe 20000)

Hi guys, I did the Thunderbird gymnastics and it worked pretty good for contacts and messages, but I couldn't find a way to transfer the calendar from outlook to entourage... any way to do that ?

BTW thanks alot for all your answers ! it is really appreciated 🙂

Of course Microsoft would not allow Entourage to easily import PST's, otherwise more people would transfer to Mac. It's a business decision.

Transfer tips:

- for emails, a very reliable way is to set up an IMAP account (e.g. using Gmail's free IMAP facility), and use that. When I first started, IMAP was a massive, even slightly intimidating concept, but once you get to know it, it is really easy. You literally drag and drop the emails from one account to the other.

i.e. you create an IMAP account on Gmail, and use both the MS Outlook and Apple to access this single IMAP account. Then, in Outlook, drag all your emails, e.g. folder by folder, to the IMAP account. Then you access the same IMAP account using Apple.

Exporting Calendar: I haven't tried this, but you could use www.syncmycal.com to sync the calendar with google calendar, and then use www.spanningsync.com to sync with Apple iCal. That way, both Outlook's and iCal's calendars are synched via google calendar. I haven't tried it but it sounds ok in theory.

As far as to-do's go, I don't know. The above-mentioned little machines software could do it.

Has anyone set out a step by step guide for importing emails, addresses and calendar from Outlook on a PC to Mail, etc on an iMac, using Thunderbird as the conduit?

Do install Thunderbird on the PC , Mac or both?

Where do I point the import to get the data from out of thunderbird?

This must be such a common question for new Mac users and I am surprised Apple have not helped make it easier to move from Microsoft by enabling this import ??

I have exactly the same problem and have hit the same frustrations that you have.

I tried the "Thunderbird Method", I tried the ".CSV method" and I even bought O2M but none of them work if you have kind of complicated PST file (as I do!).

At the moment I am still having to use my Windoze machine for Outlook and, unless I scrap all my old email (a PST file of over 1.5GB!), I seem to be stuffed!

If you do try the methods above you will end up with (potentially) hundreds of little mbx files with no hierarchy (i.e. if you have folders under folders under folders as I have) they are all at one level and I just gave up tryung to sort them out.

I am now at my wits end and may just have to run in parallel for a time (which is bound to be a disaster!).

Microsoft rightly point out that Outlook and Entourage are totally different products but I do believe that they shoudl consider a migration path - but then why would they want to HELP folks move from Windoze to OS X?

If anyone can find a good method of doing this I (and I am sure many others) would be eternally grateful!

Hey guys,

I don't want to be repeting by here's the way I worked this out :

EMAILS

First I installed Thunderbird on my Win computer.
Then I imported from outlook. It took a while since my PST was like 3 Gb.
At first I was crashing it but then I let it work for a try and it imported everything perfectly, but not showing any progress bar during the process.

Second, I searched Thunderbird help for the way to export in MBOX, and it pointed out that I sould get a plug-in, which I did.

Third, having installed the plug-in, I had a tool menu for exporting. Only thing I had to do is select each folder one by one and export them using this plug-in, I only had to add .MBOX extention to every file.

Finally, when you get these files in OS X with entourage, you just drag and drop them in entourage and them import perfectly.

That did the job for me anyways.

CONTACTS

Send yourself emails of contacts !

I sent myself email (with the WORK OFFLINE option so I wouldn't receive them in outlook) in the contacts from outlook.

As you can imagine, I totally got rid of Outlook, and of Windows actually, by now but as I remember it when you right click on a contact you have an item that's called something like "send full information of contact through email".

So to keep my categories I sent one email per categories.

Back in entourage, I had to save attachements, import them, put them in a category.
Then next email, etc. and so on.

CALENDAR

I haven't found a way to do this but what I did was : In outlook you have a way to display your calendar events by a list, so I just made a couple of print screen of that list and I put the future events that I wanted to keep in Entourage.

And the conclusion is :

Well I said byebye to Entourage because I don't need MS Exchange support and I hate Microsoft more and more everyday so I'm using Mail, Address Book and iCal now 😉

But I could easily import from entourage into all of these.

The only microsoft apps I still are the must-have : word, excel and powerpoint 2008.

Sorry, I don't have any info for Mail and Address Book. For any Entourage users out there, you can use Sync Services to sync Entourage Address Book to Apple's Address Book. This ability started with Entourage 2004 after Office update 11.3.2.

I believe you can use the "Other options to convert your Outlook mail into the MBOX forma"t found on this page: http://www.entourage.mvps.org/crossplatform/winmac.html
