Huawei E220 Modem "hang" frequently

Hi all,
I installed the Huawei E220 HSDPA modem using the driver from Vodafone. And I managed to connect to the network and able to go online. However, I facing a problem, that the modem hang every 30 minutes. Then, I will need to unplug from USB and plug in again.

Anyone else is facing the similar problem? Or anyone else can provide some advice? Thanks and best regards.

No problems here with the E220 on T-Mobile UK. I just let the installer run from the USB stick, and it's fine. Really easy to use, either with the 'Web N Walk Stick Manager' or just by dialling from the menu bar in the top right of the screen.

The Mac driver installer found on the stick (and possibly the stick's own firmware) appear to be upgradeable over the web. Mine seemed to be running the latest already, so perhaps that would be worth a try in your case? Of course, that might void your warranty, so you might want to ask Vodafone first.

Hi, i have the same problem too!

In Tiger it was absolutely OK and in Leopard it happens very often.

After 30 minutes or sometimes a little hours, the *connection still remains* but you just can't use the internet anymore. I'm using Launch2Net to connect.

Very strange, it's very very unstable in Leopard!!

Btw, forgotten to say, under windows it works just wonderful...

Hi !

I have the same problem here in Luxembourg with Tele2Tango. It looks like the duration between hangs depends a lot on the bandwidth you use. When I come home in the evening and I start iTunes, it will download tens of megabytes of podcasts. This will result in several hangups every time, while I can be online for hours while I'm not downloading intensively.

You could try to restrict the bandwidth of your system locally and see if it helps... This is done using the terminal and entering these commands:

sudo ipfw pipe 1 config bw 64kbyte/s
sudo ipfw add 1 pipe 1 ip from any to any

These settings will be lost when you reboot. It could help, but I guess that the only real solution would be a new driver from huawei.

I get this frequently and I'm on the Vodafone Network in Ireland.
I called & emailed Vodafone about this on a number of occasions - the operator I got on the phone in Data Support gave me an excuse about being in a area that has weak 3G signal.

I tried in Dublin, Cork, Bray and Kilkenny all with similar results in either strong 3G signals or weak.

IMHO (after testing for months) there is a problem with the drivers on mac.

Of course they are happy to take my 45 euro every month though but not inclined to give me the level of service that extortionate price demands.
