iTunes 7.6 Keeps Freezing!

i just upgraded to 7.6, after having numerous problems with 7.5. now i still have all of the problems of 7.5 (burning/importing very very slow), but now, itunes 7.6 keeps freezing for like 30 secs, about every other minute. its INCREDIBLY annoying. anyone got any tips on how to fix this?

example: when i right click on a song, the menu doesnt pop up for 30 secs, and if im listening to a song, the track time will freeze for about 30 secs.

eMachines, Windows XP

I've NEVER had any serious problems with previous versions of iTunes... until now. JUST upgraded to 7.6 - now my iTunes program freezes every 30 secs for about 30 secs in length of freeze time. USELESS program now.... takes 3+ minutes JUST to rename a friggin song name.

Also noticed after upgrade install the installation of Bonjour software!?!? Hello?? isn't Apple software supposed to be the anti-Microsoft software? meaning, they are DIFFERENT than Microsoft? Since when did Apple start installing hidden software on computers... lame Apple..really lame.

makes me wonder if Apple is trying to "spy" on our music??

first the introduction of Bonjour with 7.6 (which is software that relays your internet connection options back to Apple) and the constant freezing after you play music (which seems like the program is relaying something with the servers EVERYtime you play a song).

you invading my privacy Apple?

FYI, I went through and read the "iTunes software agreement".... no where does it mention I will be getting Bonjour installed?

You tell iTune users that Quicktime will be installed and is required... you never mention anything about Bonjour.

What's the deal with this? While what type of internet connections I have on my computer are inconsequential... it's still "spying" on me and retrieving data without my permission.

tsk-tsk.

Dreifort,

Are you saying that Bonjour is what's causing your system to freeze or are you just noticing that Bonjour was installed with iTunes 7.6?

Sharing of music between computers on the same network (i.e. people on the same router) has been part of iTunes since iTunes 4.1 which was the first version that ran on Windows. The difference being that in previous versions Bonjour was compiled into the application, making the iTunes application bigger and now it is a separate external service.

Bonjour is currently required for a number of features in iTunes. (1) sharing between local computers, (2) remote speakers or sharing between your computer and your stereo, and (3) Apple TV or sharing between your computer and your TV. iTunes has and will continue to ship technology (like Quicktime) that it needs to make its features work.

Nothing is being (or has ever been) sent back to Apple or any Apple server via Bonjour network connections.

I'm running into the same thing... I use Bootcamp to dual boot between 10.5 and XP... Mac side works fine, PC side pauses between songs. I also did not have this problem until the most recent update (2 days ago?). Background tasks still run smoothly (web browser, gtalk, task manager) and task switching (to anything other than iTunes) works fine. Memory is NOT the problem I have 2GB and XP is showing 1.28GB still available. My library is stored on an NAS, but up until the last patch, this has not been a problem. I anyone finds a solution, I'd love to know about it!

I've never seen Bonjour until 7.6.

Their software agreement makes NO mention of it.

My first reaction was I had a virus or spyware when my Firewall notified me that Bonjour wanted access to the internet...

While I agree Bonjour is no threat and prob a useful program, Apple NEVER asked me for my permission to install it.

I have no idea if it is causing my problem. When my firewall FIRST notified me of it, I blocked its access to the internet.

Apple... whats with the installation of unmentioned services? You were slowly converting me from a solid PC only user to Apple products until now. I made the mistake of upgrading to 7.6 and it runs like garbage, constantly freezing. I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 on 4gb of RAM, and had no issues what so ever with 7.5. Whatever you did to 7.6 has made a useful iTunes perfectly useless.

I have the exact same problem! In v7.5 everything was working fine and after the upgrade to v7.6 the program freezes for some length of time, when doing something. Even when downloading podcasts. 30secs seem about right. It does not freeze when it's idle, but it may happen - when minimized to the taskbar and I'm maximizing it - it even freezes the taskbar. Trying to do something only makes it worse, so I have to wait for iTunes to get it's act together, before I'm able to continue working.
