iSync, Address Book, and Palm Tungsten E

I have been using Missing Sync (4.0.6) to synchronize my Palm with the Palm Desktop software, and finally decided to start using iSync 2.1 to synchronize the Palm with the Apple applications (Address Book, iCal). Everything seems to work properly, but I have lost some functionality on the Palm side. Entries in the Address Book with two different addresses (Home and Work, for example) show up with only one address in the Palm. No matter whether I correct the entry in one or the other, or create a new entry, delete the old one, etc., etc., the Palm entry ends up slightly different than the Address Book entry.

This does not give me great confidence that my data will persist in trustworthy form going forward.

Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this? Or am I stuck with a sligthly twisted, less than satisfactory data transfer between the Mac and the handheld if I continue with iSync?

Though the on-board contact application for late model Palm devices and smartphones - including the Treo 650, the Tungsten E, Zire 72, Life Drive and others - was updated to include such provisions as multiple addresses and separate calendars, the iSync Palm Conduit was not, and does not recognize these and other changes. It still uses the inadequate data field mapping it has always used, and so it will not transfer a second non-work labeled address to your device from the Address Book.

Think of it this way: your Palm application has extended contact and calendaring support, and the Address Book and iCal do not.

Thanks for your concise explanation. I thought I was doing something wrong.

I was getting tired of trying to juggle two sets of data with Address Book for the Mac and Palm Desktop for the Palm. I'll have to see how much I care about the Palm address book thing.
