Optical drive will not read burnt discs

My mac book pro optical drive will not read burnt discs with information on it it just see it as blank seem to be a software thing cause it reads commercial discs with no problem. Any suggestions?? Please!!

Mac book pro, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

I had the same problem and it turned out to be that my optical drive was failing. i ended up waiting until it got worse and then took it to a apple store and they replaced it. That was what happened to me, not sure if that is the same answer for your problem.

I'm having that problem too. Been going on for months now and it's driving me insane. I really thought it was some kind of software problem. How stupid that I've had it for just a year and used it so seldom and the drive is failing. Thanks a lot for the solution, mac wise!

if you take it into apple and they will use there own discs and if it works they will declare nothing wrong with it.

i had the same, drive broken; today i got the appleservice with a new one.

please look at app: console and there under "DiscRecording.log" and "DiskUtility.log".
