iPod Touch and email

I haven't purchased an iPod Touch yet, but I'm wondering about how it sychs with Apple Mail running on a computer that it's linked to. I read a few posts here and noticed that the email settings are transferred to the iPod, but it's not clear to me if email messages can be transferred between the iPod and the computer in either direction.

An example might be sending an email from the iPod while at a remote location, and then when docked, transferring that message to the computer to keep with other previous emails sent to the same recipient from the computer.

I realize that all this could be accomplished with CC's, forwarding, etc. but I'm curious if messages can be transferred directly, as if they were songs or photos.

Thanks,

Bob

Mail messages are not synced between the ipod and your computer, only the settings for your mail accounts. Not sure what your getting at with the remote location business. However the ipod touch supports both pop and imap mail accounts. With both types of accounts depending on who there with, you should have the ability to retrieve messages from multiple devices. You can retrieve a message with the mobile mail app on the ipod, and then later check the same account on your computer and retrieve the same messages there that you already retrieved on your ipod.

I use Apple Mail for my .mac email account and it syncs very nicely both directions. I just sent an email from my Touch and then opened my .mac account on my desktop in Mail and I looked at the sent folder and my email that I sent from my Touch was there. Very cool!

You don't actually have to hook up your Touch to your computer and sync it in my example, it's just a bonus of a .mac account if you have it set up correctly.

Go for the Touch, it's great!

I am assuming since you answered this question - you have your pop3/smtp email working with your iPod Touch email application. I have an ISP (Roadrunner) which uses a POP3 and SMTP server for email. I use Outlook express on my desktop and used the same settings - but it get hung on the "setting validation" and gives me errors like "cannot validate using SSL - would you like to try without SSL?" Can you help?

I realize you have a paid account, my response was to seventh_angel2004.

Many of the cable providers do not allow for sending mail from their accounts on a device such as the iPod. You might want to contact Time Warner cable about your problem.
