iTunes Rental Error Code 5103

I can't watch rentals, and they don't process. I continually get an error code 5103. Is anyone else getting this same error code?

Thanks,

David

Same thing here. I'm overseas and reset my clock and it messed up the rentals I had downloaded before my trip. I've tried everything. Permissions repair. Delete Plist, reset pram, reset clock to US time, created a new user account and a new .mac account with a different credit card and rented another movie. Error 5103. Reinstalled iTunes. Nothing works.

Thanks for your response. I'm still having trouble playing movies (error code 5103) on my desktop computer, but I tried an experiment with downloading the incomplete downloads to my laptop, which is an old PowerMac G4. The movies downloaded and played, but since that laptop is so old, the streaming was really slow and the movies were unwatchable.

In my case, I had a kernel panic that reset my clock on my desktop. This happened after I had rented one movie. I reset my clock to the correct time and am still getting the error code, even with new rentals.

I suspect that Apple has written code that identifies your actual computer ID, or at least your IP address. This code must cause the iTunes Store to lock your account for that particular computer if the time changes.

I've tried every conceivable solution to no avail. Reauthorizing the computer won't do the trick either.

They really should do something about this problem, since users have various reasons why their clocks could change (relocating, battery going dead, and so on.)

If anyone else has a solution, it would be greatly appreciated.

Problem Fixed....Great Job Apple.
I contacted customer support tonight, and spoke to a very pleasant technical support rep. I explained my problem with the 5103 error, and previous attempts via email, and phone support to remedy the issue. She felt the issue needed to be resolved quickly, and was in the process of getting me in touch with the appropriate technical representative. While on hold, I attempted again to playback my movie rentals, and bam!!!! Murphy's Law.....the movies played. When the representative came back on the phone, I explained that it was working. I guess I just needed some of those good positive vibes from one of Apples excellent staff.
Thanks Apple for fixing the issue, whatever you did! And thanks to the rep. who really wanted to resolve the problem.

I am also experiencing this issue.

My date and time are correct, but were incorrect when I first downloaded it.

The movie refuses to finish downloading, resulting in the above error. The movie refuses to play, resulting in the above error. The movie refuses to transfer to an iPod, resulting in the above error.

In addition, upon launching iTunes, I have to log into with my Apple ID, then I receive the above error.

There is no time noted on the Rented Movies page.

I am frustrated.

I'm in the exact same boat as you.

Bootcamp still sometimes has fun with my clock settings. So i went to download a rental last night and the download wouldn't finish, got the 5103 error.

Same thing with itunes. every time I launch it it asks for my account details, and then same error. Clock is set correctly, and I dunno what time to set it to to fix the rental problem..

very frustrating. Apple has my money for the rental, and now I want my rental... you hear me apple? Your DRM, while for good intents and purposes, is causing me, a legitimate customer, some problems. that should be a MAJOR concern on your part.

feels like... wrongful arrest. or something (maybe not as extreme).

Same here. Movies show up as downloaded completely but "stopped" in the Downloads list in iTunes. I get the error when they finish downloading and when I try to play them. The movies show up in the Rented Movies list in iTunes and the files themselves are stuck in the /iTunes Music/Downloads folder with an info.plist file. I've tried resetting the PRAM and DVRAM, repairing permissions, deleting the actual files, etc. Also, I've tried with a different iTunes account on the same computer with a fresh, empty iTunes Library file. Same error.

iTunes Tier II support said they got them to work with my account on different computer. I really hope my only option isn't to reinstall Tiger.

I set the system clock to automatic. I exited both quicktime and iTunes. I moved iTunes into the trash. I deleted quicktime from the HD and from the trash. I downloaded the quicktime installer, and installed quicktime. Moved iTunes from the trash back into the apps folder and my 5103 error cleared up. Good luck! Don't touch the clock!

The fix for this is supposed to be resetting the system clock to automatic time, but this, as we've seen, more often than not fails to work. After a bit of an email exchange between Apple support and myself I discovered the true fix for this issue, or at least, the one that they said to use and that worked for me.

After resetting your clock go to the folder /Users/Shared in Finder and delete the folder "SC Info". This is a hidden folder, so the way you will need to get it to appear is to use the go to folder command (Shift + Command + G) and type in /Users/Shared/SC Info and hit enter. Change to the column view and you'll be able to see the folder there. Move it to the trash and it will go away, and take your problems with it. Restart the computer for the deletion to take effect and then reauthorize your itunes. Should play your rentals after that.
