Bt Email

Can anyone talk me through setting up my email on the ipod touch, if the provider does not appear in the list (namely BT email). I am not sure what some of the info fields are and where to get this information. 😟

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

It's simple - choose "other" from the list and then select POP

In the "Name" field, enter your name as you would like it to appear in the "From" field on another person's email.
In the "Address" field enter your "@btinternet.com" email address.
In the "Description" field enter something that relates to this email account. I simply entered BT

"Incoming Mail Server"
"Host Name" = mail.btinternet.com
"User Name" = yourname@btinternet.com (your email address)
"Password" = your usual email password

"Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)"
"Host Name" = pop.btinternet.com
"User Name" = yourname@btinternet.com (your email address)
"Password" = your usual emai lpassword

I changed nothing in the "Advanced" settings and it's been working perfectly ever since.

If you are not a btinternet customer, substitute this for btbroadband/btconnect or whatever suits your exact server.

Good luck!

I don't know if you might be able to help me. I have a btinternet.com address - and when I bought my ipod touch on Saturday it synced straight away using the default "Yahoo" settings (I always log on webmail on my PC via Yahoo and have never had a problem), and it sent a test email perfectly fine.

However the next day I got the error message which is along the lines of "incorrect password or username." After a few attempts at re-entering my password I decided to delete the account and try again - no such luck. Since then I have not been able to sync using the default Yahoo! settings, always getting the username/password error message.

So I was happy to find your post on here, but unfortunately the settings using the "other" route only partially work:

1) When first syncing all emails came through unread.
2) I cannot send emails from my ipod touch.

I just find it strange that I was initially able to sync using the default Yahoo! settings no problem.

Any help would be most appreciated.

The above is baloney. I tried the stuff above. It doesn't work. I found out the quick way to make my iPhone work with BT Internet. All you have to do is load itunes and click on the button which says synchronise to Microsoft Outlook (assuming that is the mail client you use to access BT Internet). It synced in a second and then it all worked. I wasted 2 hours trying the stuff written above in this posting. Save yourself some time and synchronise from your working email account using itunes. Easy.
