Adobe Version Cue CS2?

Hi everyone,

Sorry for posting this question in this forum, but I thought i'd get a quicker response than on the Adobe forum as there doesn't seem to be much life about it.

What exactly does Adobe Version Cue do? i've no idea, and it's pinned to my top menu bar and does not function. It's stuck on update 2.0 and I cannot update it to 2.1 because it keeps saying update failed.

Just looking to know if I can delete it or will it come in useful? I run the rest of the programmes that came along with it in Adobe Creative Suite C2 like Photoshop, InDesign etc... but not this Cue.

Thanks in advance!

Adobe Version Cue is revision management software intended to arbitrate conflicting changes when multiple people are editing the same documents at the same time. If you're familiar with Unix or software development, Version Cue is like CVS, Subversion (SVN), Mercurial, or GIT. In general, if you don't already know what Version Cue is, you don't need it.

The Mac implementation of Version Cue has never worked right, so the best advice I found is to avoid installing it in the first place. When I recently had to re-install my Adobe CS1 on Leopard, I just did a Custom Install, and unchecked the Version Cue option. Everything has worked perfectly since then.

I found these directions on removing Adobe Version Cue from CS2 in the middle of this page:
http://www.macfixitforums.com/printthread.php?Cat=&Board=Forum36&main=775306&typ e=thread

"I used System Preferences to turn off Version Cue, then followed MacFixit's fix....

delete the following files (or place them in a separate folder for safe-keeping):
• Adobe Version Cue folder from the Applications folder
• VersionCueCS2.prefPane folder from the Library/PreferencePanes folder.
• com.adobe.versioncueCS2.plist file from the Library/Preferences folder.
• AdobeVersionCueCS2 folder from the Library/StartupItems folder.

then restarted my mac."

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply!

However, I just opened the Cue CS2 folder and there was an uninstall application in it. I chose the 2nd option to delete all Cue CS2 software and backup files/logs.

And now it's gone! I didn't understand much of what you said about them windows programmes so figured out that I wouldn't need it.

Cheers!
