No More "Loop" function in Preview Slideshow

What happened? Tiger would continuously loop my slideshow for demos I did at various shows. The function vanished with Leopard. Why did Apple eliminate such a useful function?

If you don't want to use iPhoto, you don't actually need any program at all to see a continuous simple slideshow. Just select the photos you want in the Finder, control click and select "Quick Look" from the contextual menu, then click the diagonal facing arrows to enter full screen and watch the slideshow indefinitely.

"I’m pleased to announce the immediate availablity of JustLooking 3.1. JustLooking is a program to view pictures and images on your Mac OS X (Tiger) based computer. JustLooking is a Universal Binary, and can be run on both PowerPC and Intel Macs. The program is and will always be very free."

It specifically says that its for Tiger.

Works perfectly in Leopard.

Why should I need a 3rd party app in Leopard when I didn't need it in Tiger?

Well, you already know the answer to that question. 🙂 'Cause Preview doesn't loop like you want it to. Maybe Apple will fix it, but until they do.....

And as previously pointed out, iPhoto will loop also.

I actually like Just Looking better than Preview for quick image display.

There is a preference setting that causes the image to be displayed using Exif "orientation value..." BUT, in the slide show a portrait orientated image will automatically rotate to landscape orientation. Rotating the image in the viewer has no effect on how the image is displayed in slide show view.

I have just emailed the developer about this.

I'm just going to use Finder's slideshow function for "looped" slideshows.

It works fine with landscape style pics; obviously portrait pics will be smaller than optimal unless the file is first rotated and saved in another application (e.g. Preview or Iphoto).

I really hope Apple fixes this. It seems like they mess something up with Preview every time they introduce a new OS (or new version of an existing OS).
