iMovie freezes

I did a software update on Tuesday. Ever since then when I am importing video from my camcorder, iMovie freezes multiple times. As many as 10-12 times for 45 minutes of video. I have to force quit and rewind back to the point where I stopped.

Has any else had this problem or know how to fix it? Prior to the update on Tuesday, I had NO problems importing video.

I'm having the same problem. Trying to import from a Sony DCR-TRV17 it will "freeze" approx. 6 min. into the import. After the 'forced quit' I can get back to work only to have it happen again. It performed flawlessly the first couple of times I used it and then like you I performed a software update and everything started to go south. Haven't been able to use it since, too frustrating.

Does anyone know how to "turn back" an update once it's been installed?

The updates that I installed that may have had a negative impact were to iTunes 7.6 (29), QuickTime Player 7.4 (92) and of course iMovie 7.1.1 (529).

Same problem here as well. Imports freeze after about 5-6 minutes (import image freezes, importing stops, but camera keeps playing). The import camera is a Canon ZR45mc. I have had NO issues during import prior to the most recent software update of 7.1.1.

I hope Apple is reviewing this issue as I see it popping up across discussion forums. If anyone has a solution in the short-term, I'd love to hear it!

I am having the exact same problem. My original install of iMovie (out of the box) worked fine. Once I updated to 7.1, imports started to hangup consistently. I since installed 7.1.1 and am having the same problem.

Another thing I noticed is that import does not create new events by date, even though I specify this option on import. All clips are dumped into a single event.

I have verified the volume and checked permissions; all OK there. Importing from camera is essentially useless.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I've been having the same freeze-ups when I downloaded the new iMovie software from iLife '08. easy fix...I deleted the entire new iMovie siftware, re-downloaded the iMovie siftware from iLife '06 (that I've been using successfully), donwloaded the patches (3 of them on the Apple site)...and now all is well and back to the smooth-sailing as before.

I Do Not Like, nor want, anything to do with iLife '08.

(I love Apple).

Sounds like an elegant solution if in fact you have iLife '06 from which to restore. For those of us that have recently purchased an Apple product (because "it just works") this is not a viable option. I'm not going to go out and purchase any previous versions of iLife when I paid for what is supposed to be the latest greatest. Obviously the solution already exists because it was working fine before the last update, seems to me that it should be simple enough to turn back the clock a little so that we can all get back to work. Don't get me wrong I'm happy for you that you've found a solution, I'd probably do the same thing if I could. Right now my strategy is to continue to complain until something gets done, I encourage everyone that has this issue to weigh in. As for now my "work around" is to back to my PC based computer to download and edit all my video. "How do you like them apples", Apple.

I just got my macbook this past November, a major upgrade after a starting at out with a Mac LC to a Quadra 800 to a Mac 9600 to an ibook(clamsheel wfirewire) to a b/w g3 and now finally a macbook!

Anyway I finally have a machine that will easily import from my sony digital camcorder ZR45. That worked fine recording 1 straight hour. I am able to cut and splice the imported video. I can preview it fine. I was then going to add a title to the beginning of the video I spliced together. iMovie then crashes. It does it whether I have the zr45 connected or not. I have nothing else running...

When is there going to be an upgrade to this app? to bad I like the way t works but it is just so buggy.... You think that Apple would have tested this a little more... errr,

This is a major problem -- not being able to import continuously without the import freezing. It does appear related to the last software upgrade. I'm not going to transfer any more video until this is fixed. Too cumbersome to have to stop every time it freezes, restart the application, roll back in the video to where the freeze started, and then continue until it freezes again....

Is anyone using iMovie 08 NOT having this problem?

Is anyone at Apple listening? This needs to get fixed asap...

Same here!! 😟

iMovie '08 ver. 7.1.1 (529)

When importing to the internal HD the import from my DV camcorder freezes after anything from 4-12 minutes (tried repeatedly resulting in different freeze times). Importing to an external HD will freeze sooner 1-3 minutes.

Resetting iMovie, deleting the caches, preferences, etc.. did not help.

Please, we need a solution here, this is quite frustrating!

This is a ridiculous situation. User after user has the exact same problem, not a hint of a possible cause /fix, and I don't see any acknowledgment of the problem on Apple's site.

How would one go about contacting Apple about this? Stand in line at the "Genius Bar?" Apparently Apple doesn't monitor these forums, and I don't see any means to open a support ticket on their site.

Any ideas?
