Best way to get portable internet

I'm an iMac and Mac Pro user and a about to invest in my first mac laptop (still undecided over the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air...). I don't understand exactly how you can be online on a laptop, moving about... is it possible to be online and be traveling about at the same time? I'm about to do some traveling around the UK this year and want to know how to be online while I'm doing it! Are there any Mac add-ons I need to get? Is the MacBook Pro better than the Air in this regard? Any recommendations and information would be much appreciated!

A MacBook pro as well as a MacBook Air come with built-in wireless airport cards so connecting wirelessly should not be an issue. However, you will need to be in a proximity of a wireless network. If you want to be connected as you are moving, like on a bus, car or train then you probably will need some sort of connection that some cell phone providers have, Verizon, Sprint, etc., called EVDO. i am not sure the best service to use in Europe, but if you want something like wireless that you can use anywhere in the US verizon is supposedly the best one (this is coming form an ATT fan, my brother worked for a cell phone distributor that was on line and said the verizon wireless computer receiver thingys got the best service, this was before g3 was available for computers)

you may have to look around for something in europe though

Many phone companies now offer Internet access through the mobile phone network, using a 3G modem device and some sort of service contract. These provide high speed Internet connections anywhere there is mobile phone coverage. Often these devices come in the form of an Expresscard, in which case the MacBook Air is no good because it lacks an Expresscard port, but a USB dongle alternative is commonly offered too.

You'll have to look up the respective phone companies for the regions you're traveling to, to see what they offer.
