Q: MacBook Pro constantly losing wireless connectivity

Hi folks,

Well, I read a ton of posts regarding MacBook Pro wireless networking issues before buying a wireless router last month, and now it's "me too."

Our iBook has no problems whatsoever with dropped connections, but the MBP loses access every few minutes or so. I usually follow a sequence of "Turn AirPort Off"/"Turn Airport On" to cycle the connection, and sometimes this works. It's an almost constant problem. This is a standard configuration MBP.

The router happens to be a D-Link DIR-615, but I've seen enough posts about problems with the Airport Express and MacBook Pros to know it's not the router that's the problem--it's the MacBook Pro (I notice a few similar posts even on the first page of this forum).

Dear Apple: what are you doing about this issue?

Has anyone else somehow resolved this problem? If there was only a couple of posts about this issue, then it might be written off as problems with a specific router, or specific users. But when there's a ton of messages all complaining about the same problem, then it's more likely a significant defect that needs to be fixed by the manufacturer, and won't be fixed by standard troubleshooting procedures of the mundane kind (Tech Support Theater: "Is your router turned on?").

Dear Apple: where are you?

Good bye mac book pro. We are on our second one after i refuse to find out why my new machine will not run all the time. Ive invested too much time into an obvious apple problem. Im actually typing this on a five year old computer sitting next to my top of the line mac book pro that will not connect or does so at dial up speeds. STAY AWAY FROM APPLE until they figure it out.

This wireless issue is really starting to get me angry. Fix it apple. My old Mac and Windows machines don't have this problem. It is getting worse. 3K for the machine, drop outs to the max. Not good.

It's challenging and sometimes fun to be the one who finds a solution but I'm afraid that it is, after three years and hundreds of attempts by skilled users, time for Apple to step uo to the plate and address this problem.  Yes, recalls are expensive but Apple literally has more cash on hand than the U.S. government.  I can't use my MBP because it is infuriating but my old Powerbook connects just fine.  C'mon Apple.

I guess I have to go to the Apple store and give the apple genius a new one. Beyond frustrating. If Jobs were alive and dealing with this issue, heads would rolls. Apple, you are starting to lose luster. After spending 3K on a great machine, the wireless part of the equation is a total loss.

Does the MBP's Wi-Fi work for the vast majority of customers on the vast majority of networks?  Why yes, it does.

Do you have issues on yours?  Unfortunately, you do.

Have you submitted Wi-Fi Diagnostics information to AppleCare to try and determine why you're having problems? No idea.

Regardless, it's no reason to give the poor hourly employee at the mall grief about it.

If they are called geniuses, they should know EVERYTHING.  If they don't, then they are giving geniuses a bad name.

    I certainly hope you're kidding.

"Genius" is a job title; just because the guy at the bank is a vice president doesn't mean he gets to be bank president if the bank president dies.

Of course the vice president would assume the "presidency" if the company's policy is for that to happen.  "Genius" means just that, just like "vice president" means just that.  I just hate having f'n Apple Bar Geniuses who were serving me frappucinos at Starbucks the week prior.  They are usually about as useful as scuba gear in the desert.

The problem with wireless is very real. Apple, you have a problem. I am a very experienced computer user who has worked with systems and with Apple for over 30+ years. The comments posted on this issue from really smart people are consistent, we are having problems with MBP and wireless, period. What part of no don't you understand. As stated in a previous post, if Jobs were alive and was dealing with this issue, heads would roll. Don't you think it time to fix this? Admitting a fault is part of reality. Deal with this because if you don't, your reputation will fall followed by migration of formerly loyal users to other platforms. End of quiet rant.

Then why don't you notify Apple directly through AppleCare instead of posting here in a forum that for the most part is only monitored for violations of the Terms of Use?

I said the same thing - 'I'll never buy an Apple' bcos of all the restrictions on 2 month old 3GS and gave it to my mum last year; and had been happy ever since with my HTC Inspire phone, HP personal laptop & Lenovo work laptop.... Until I gave in onto a deal on Smart looking MBP for double the price of the best HP laptop available and brought it home... Wish I had returned it in 14 days . Didnt realize then, as the problems started showing up only after a month...

    - Wifi disconnects so frequent that I have to do turn offs / turn on wifi switch, relaunch Browsers...

    - Screen locks itself while am working

    - MS Excel most of my important daily shortcuts dont work

    - Cant run Citrix for work

Will have to gift this aluminum time waster to some family member again.

    Any solution to Wifi problem?

Remoran.....we have two macbooks in the household and each connect with our wireless network perfectly.  we also have 2 windows based laptops which use the same network with the same level of sucess.  because of the good results we had with the two macbooks, i got a MBP....awful!  always dropping network connection, very frustrating.

I totally agree with your statement.  there are 80 pages on this issue ... how can someone suggesty we waste time with apple support.  if they knew how to solve the issue we would have read that on page 3 or 4.

i am close to buying a new windows based laptop and selling my mbp on ebay.  I thought Mr Softy was tough to work with but this MPB is driving me crazy.

I finally broke down and bought a new router, a linksys 3500 or something like that for $100.  My MBP loses connection for a very short bit after I put it to sleep, but then it cycles for about 5-10 seconds and then connects.  This is MUCH better than having to yank the power cords on the old router and cable modem and going thru all types of nonsense to reconnect.  I was having ZERO problems with 10.5 OSX and as soon as I upgraded to Snow Leopard, it started getting squirrely.  There is OBVIOUSLY an issue with Snow Leopard which Apple should figure out.  If they are charging us 2K for a computer, it sure as **** better work right.

Come on you Apple clods... figure it out already.

Everything works great on my new WideBand Extreme Internet EXCEPT THE MACBOOK PRO...the most expensive and fancy machine in my house.

Come on Mac geeks tell me this is a problem with my network....please just say that... because if it is how come all my other Apple and Windows products do not have a problem!!!!!???/?
