Q: MacBook Pro constantly losing wireless connectivity

Maybe Apple has to make an update...

Is this fixed in 10.8.4?

I can't count the times (40?) that I changed the channel, others changed the channel, or that the router was replaced entirely !

It would 'hold' for a while - and at times, I thought I had found the answer - like you.  But it was short lived.  Problems started occurring again, and I was back where I started.  (It almost seemed like the problem had a life of its own, and it would 'discover' the changes I had made, and overcome them - like a mutating virus.)  -- I know how weird I sound !

You can try all you want - and I do hope it works for you.  But I doubt it will 'stick'.  Call and report it to Apple, start amassing a history, so you too can call Customer Service/Apple Coprate - and ask for your new MBP.

So, it's been slightly more than one year since l posted about this issue, and based on the my reading of the comments since then, it looks like a few more people have gotten lucky with their "fixes" (knock on wood), but nobody is truly the wiser as to the real source of the problem.  :(

I can say that, about 8 months ago, I installed Boot Camp on the same 2008 MBP, and while I still have the same wifi connectivity issues when using Mountain Lion, I NEVER have them when I'm working on the Windows 7 side.  So, for me at least, it would suggest that the issue is NOT a hardware-related one.

Which is a bit of a bummer really, since buying and swapping out hardware components is something I could actually take action about.  Waiting for Apple to admit and resolve a mysterious software- or firmware-related issue ... I'm not holding my breath.

Using MBP 13"  Version 10.7.5

Connecting to Nokia Lumia 920 Internet Sharing (Wi-Fi). Getting MBP Wireless disconnections & drops issues like everybody else (almost). Tried investigating the root causes (via logs, network monitor, Inssider, applepushd) to no avail.

My Solution

Downloaded ControlPlane (Context Switcher)

As per Feature list - Has an Option - monitor Active Network Adapter i.e. Link

Adding to my woes - if I selected that Option it would crash!!!!!!!

So went back to the basic - Used ControlPlane with scripts

Step 1

Install ControlPlane

Step 2

ControlPlane Preferences/Context - Create 2 Contexts

1. Connected (You can use your own)
2. Disconnected (You can use your own)

Step 3

ControlPlane Preferences/Evidence

You can select - Active Network Adapter (If you select this & ControlPlane does not crash then kindly follow the controlplane documentation to move forward). Unfortunately the above crashed for me!!!!!

I selected - Shell Script

Step 4

ControlPlane Preferences/Rules

If you selected - Shell Script as Evidence  then you will get - "Add Script Rule" when you click the "+"

Click Add Script Rule

Browse for the shell script - Select WLACT.sh (2 Scripts - Provided below)

Parameters

• Run Script - 5 Secs
• Confidence - Full
• Context Connected
• Click OK

Step 5

ControlPlane Preferences/Rules

Click Add Script Rule

Browse for the shell script - Select WLINACT.sh (2 Scripts - Provided below)

• Run Script - 5 Secs
• Confidence - Full
• Context Disconnected

Click OK

Step 6

ControlPlane Preferences/Action

This is only for testing purpose you can disable this later on if you are successful. You can ofcourse use the rest for any other purpose I just used it for this solution

Click "+"

Misc Action - Speak Phrase

Speak Text - hellish

At context - Disconnected

On Arrival

Click OK

Step 7

ControlPlane Preferences/Action

Click "+"

Misc Action - Speak Phrase

Speak Text - Heaven

At context - Connected

On Arrival

Click OK

I've found solution of this problem. Its the DHCP IP-Range.

That means: Before I had an IP that looked like this: 10.1.0.XY (or similiar... ).

After I've changed the DHCP IP-Range to 192.168.XX.XX the problem was gone.

No Problems since then. I'm so happy....

ya i dont think ip is the crux. my ip is class c series also i.e 192.168.x.x

Jensche21, how do you change the HDCP IP-Range?  I'd like to try that because we are having the same problem.  I don't know if that's what my IP Range is or not - I am not that great with computers and on top of that I'm a PC user (trying to solve same problem for someone else's computer who is ever worse with tech issues than me).

I might be having a different problem than everyone else. I experience issues only on my home network. The problem has progressed from once a month to once a day or more now. When I wake my computer from sleep, the wifi will be disconnected. When I try to connect, it does for a few seconds and then says network connection timed out, or sometimes it will just go on forever with its little "trying to connect" animation. Anyways, the reason I think I'm having a different issue is that it seems that most people can reboot their macbook and all is well again, but for me, there is no other fix except to plug in my Ethernet cable, login to my netgear router settings, and change the channel. This works now for about 12 hours or less. Is this different than most others or are other people experiencing this same issue??

Nope, your issue is the same as the rest of us. I had to buy a new MBPro because the issue was with an old white MB that could no longer be updated, not with my newer MBPro. Started after the last time I updated the firmware for Airport on the newer laptop. Weird thing was, I could move the older white MB closer to the airport unit and it would stay connected. Of course, I didn't find that out until after spending $1500 on the new MBP!

Just went to my first of many Genius Bar appointments for this. Of course they couldn't help me and told me to get a new router and if that doesn't work reinstall the OS. I'm going to get a router today to see if it solves it... It won't. We all know none of this will work. But I'm putting in the work to try to get a new macbook to fix this.

Good - just prod along and you will see!  Best - (ps:  I bought an Air Port, I did so much - nothing worked.  Only a new MBP.)

so no luck anyone?  Getting annoyed having to restart the router and computer every other couple of minutes just to do what my PC has no issues with... How freaking hard is it to get this issue fixed. Man what has happened to Apple..

What do you mean? No luck with what? Lots of people have posted various ways they've fixed it, none of them very consistent so I think we're often talking about different problems with the same symptom.

Don't think many people here would have their routers just completely mis-configured. That made your wifi connection drop? Doesn't make much sense.
