Q: MacBook Pro constantly losing wireless connectivity

Hi folks,

Well, I read a ton of posts regarding MacBook Pro wireless networking issues before buying a wireless router last month, and now it's "me too."

Our iBook has no problems whatsoever with dropped connections, but the MBP loses access every few minutes or so. I usually follow a sequence of "Turn AirPort Off"/"Turn Airport On" to cycle the connection, and sometimes this works. It's an almost constant problem. This is a standard configuration MBP.

The router happens to be a D-Link DIR-615, but I've seen enough posts about problems with the Airport Express and MacBook Pros to know it's not the router that's the problem--it's the MacBook Pro (I notice a few similar posts even on the first page of this forum).

Dear Apple: what are you doing about this issue?

Has anyone else somehow resolved this problem? If there was only a couple of posts about this issue, then it might be written off as problems with a specific router, or specific users. But when there's a ton of messages all complaining about the same problem, then it's more likely a significant defect that needs to be fixed by the manufacturer, and won't be fixed by standard troubleshooting procedures of the mundane kind (Tech Support Theater: "Is your router turned on?").

Dear Apple: where are you?

MBP, Mac OS X (10.4.11), non

Some messages here disappearing.  Perhaps Apple is aware?  Makes it even more diabolical to me - hope I don't sound crazy!

We are unable to get our own internet connection at this time so we "borrow" the connection from our neighbors WLAN line.  My roommate gets great connection with her HP laptop anywhere in our flat but my MBP OSX 10.8.5 gets terrible connection and only in 1 spot in the flat.  Apple is suppose to be a far better product but I have far worse connection problems.  What can be done to help?  It makes skyping a major problem.

did Apple confirm it is a faulty network card?  I have a mid 2012 MBP and have the same problem as everyone else - it has the same network card you have posted so wondering if they are admitting it is faulty hardware?

My wifi connection drops when waking up Macbook Air 2012. Started a week or so ago. I have to constantly reconnect. Sometimes it's smooth and sometimes not, to reconnect. Very annoying.

I got the same problem with MBP, my father has same problem with Mac Book 13" and my wife got it in Airbook. WiFi drops out whole time. This is really annoying! Try to watch movie with this kind of connection! PC laptops works just fine in same WLAN.

Apple has pulled my entire thread saying I do not conform to their forum rules. I think that sends a very strong message about the problem. Guess I'll see y'all on Twitter.

Yeah that message was gone like puff!

Well good thing is that someone in Apple is actually watching these messages, or was it just a bot that noticed too many words against Apple :-)

Just wondering if the wi-fi environment is significantly different at your temoporary residence. This is a frustrating problem, to be sure.

I think others had posted that they didn't have any issues on PCs or other non Apple products, but that other networks were the same. But don't quote me, there were thousands of threads that got pulled! I'm moving over to another suggested forum since I got bumped off this one, called Whirlpool forums out of Australia. That way I can post the Twitter information without being banned. This issue is really discouraging, especially trying to get it resolved here.

OK - I've just tried the solution here:

seems to be working for the last 5 minutes!

My current MBP is only running at 10.6.8 and the white MB that I had my issues with was older and not running Lion, so this remedy would not have worked. I actually had some wifi issues on my old iMac where I tried this because it was assigning randon IP addresses. I ended up on the phone with Apple Support in order to resolve it.

Don't bother, it still keeps dropping out!

I'm running Mavericks (actually was OK before I updated) so not sure if they may have fiddled with the drivers or something.

From reading other posts it seems to be some sort of driver issue as one solution was to run windows off the mac.  not sure if anyone running bootcamp can confirm this?  At least if running windows has no wifi connectivity issues then that would mean it's not a hardware issue just something Apple could fix if they really wanted to?!!

This solution did not work for me.  I opened a brand new macbook tonight...wifi dropping constantly.  Wife and kids working without disruption.  Does anyone have any other suggestions?  Thanks.

This thread has been going forever which clearly indicates that there is no real solution. Apple knows about this issue but they will not be fixing it.   I purchased my macbook in early 2011. Just over 18 months later I begun having wifi issues. I did everything that everybody suggested.  My wifi got worse and worse until eventually it failed completely. However, I purchased a USB wifi which has worked perfectly ever since.
18 months ago I purchased an ipad. Last week the speakers begun to sound distorted.  Apple knows that the parts they use will begin to fail after certain dates. Its part of their plan to keep the consumer buying more. However I will not be purchasing another apple product ever again.
BTW - In australia it is now law that companies must fix or replace faulty goods if its less than 2 years old. Apple are very hush hush about this fact because most people dont realise and think its only 1 year. If you ring them they will not tell you but if you ring fair trading they will very clearly tell you your rights as a consumer. If your computer is less than 2 years old demand that they fix or replace it and if they dont take it to fair trading dept.
