Add Printer Error -9672

I just upgraded to Leopard and performed a clean install on both my iMac and MacBook Pro. I have a Canon Pixma iP4000 connected to an AirPort Express for wireless printing, which I used with my previous Tiger installations.

I was successful adding the printer on the MacBook Pro, but not with the iMac!

When I go into System Preferences >Print & Fax and then click + to add a printer, the Canon iP4000 is listed as a Bonjour printer. When I select the printer, "Print Using" displays the Canon IJ Printer driver. After clicking the Add button, I get the following message:

"An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Error -9672"

With both computers having just received a clean installation of Leopard, why would one successfully add the wireless printer, and the other receive this error message?

The error -9672 is usually a comms error with Canon printers. Typically it is caused by the incorrect driver being selected, but given that Canon IJ displayed in the print using menu, then I don't believe this is the cause.

I wonder if there could be something blocking certain ports. Do you have the Firewall set to 'allow all incoming connections' (System Preferences > Security > Firewall)?

Also, if the iMac is a G5 rather than Intel, there could be an update that hasn't been performed yet. Run the Software Update to see if anything pertaining to Airport on PPC is mentioned.

My last suggestion is to try the Canon PIXMA iP4000 - Gutenprint v5.1.3 driver that is part of the Leopard installation. When you add the printer again, change the Print Using menu to 'Select a driver to use...' and browse to the Canon PIXMA iP4000 - Gutenprint v5.1.3. Then select Add and see if the error occurs.

Thanks for the feedback!

The Firewall is set to 'Allow all incoming connections'. Also, the iMac is an Intel Core Duo.

The Gutenprint drivers are not available. On both the MacBook Pro and iMac I performed a custom install and disabled all the printer drivers except for Canon.

I'm going to call Apple Support this week and see if they have any solution.

Thanks again for your suggestions.
