Hmm. Not me, my good Chap. No Directory Services, even. I think I was slighted. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that my Home folder is on an alternate drive. I dunno. Even Spotlight comes up empty. (Sorry for the tangent, everyone.)

Here's my (premature) update after using the SMC_RST button inside of the machine. I've had about 15 successful wakes from sleep, with no reboots, including two overnight sleeps and a few 3-4 hour sleeps. This is my longest stretch without reverting to the problem, so I'm cautiously hopeful. I'll report back if the problem returns (which wouldn't surprise me one bit).

Which of the two buttons did you use? Neither is labeled SMC_RST, at least on mine; There is a DIAG button, and an unlabeled one close to a pair of solder pads (test point?) labeled RESET. See these photos which I posted above, links repeated here to save searching the thread:

DIAG Button: This one is behind the memory risers; top riser removed.

"Reset" ? Button: This is below Drive Bay 4, next to the filler plate for the top card slot.

I used the "reset" button below Drive 4. On previous Mac Pros, this is where the SMC reset button is. I would assume the same is true for this machine. The DIAG button is for diagnostics, from what I've gathered through a cursory Google search.

So far, so good - but as we know (all too well), I could go for a couple weeks problem free and still have the issue return.

Thanks...Can I ask exactly what you did, e.g., disconnect everything as for the "Apple documented" SMC reset? Press the button...momentarily? Hold for a second or two? Reset PRAM during power-up?

Since it seems (touch wood) to be working for you, I'd like to try EXACTLY the same thing and see how repeatable/transferrable it is.

1. Shut down and allow to cool off.
2. Remove all cables.
3. Open case, press button for 1-2 seconds (there's no light or indicator that a reset has happened, as far as I can tell, so the amount of time was just a guess)
4. Reconnect cables, starting with power cable, the keyboard, then the rest.
5. Press power button while holding Command-Option-P-R. I think two chimes is enough, but I'm superstitious so I went for four :>

That's it.

Mac Pros are, I shouldn't doubt, the machines Apple uses itself to develop
its Apps. I can't imagine the Logic Pro team are all coding on Macbooks 🙂
That being so, I'm sure they are as keen as all of us to see the machines
working as they should.

Just want to add to the list. I did the SMC thing and it seemed to work for about 2-3 days. Now it's back to restart regardless of how long it is in sleep mode. Annoying to say the least. Especially since you can't walk away with any unsaved work open. Hasn't happened yet, but I'm sure it will eventually.

just turn off auto sleep. You are really playing with fire.

Off topic, I cannot imagine in which circumstances one would walk away from a workstation with unsaved work open long enough for it to sleep ?

Personally, I never -regardless of how much I trust the computer- walk away from unsaved work.

Followed above steps last night. Machine rebooted on wake this morning (and it was just a 5-min test, not all night.)

Hope you're having better luck. And wondering what if anything Apple is coming up with...

telephone call, baby crying, food burning, physiological necessities, boss instruction, non-computer work on desktop, visits, overlook etc...
