Feb 19, 2008 3:53 PM in response to Oliver Nissenby pedia,Just to add me to the list.
Same problem, no solution -
Feb 19, 2008 5:23 PM in response to transplant6by Neal Jackson,What's has really depressed me about this is that Apple have only today released a keyboard firmware fix for known faulty MacBook/Pro keyboards dating back to... wait for it ... 2006!
Will MacPro users have to suffer a similar period to see a patch or will the 1000 to 1 fewer sales of Desktops v Laptops mean the problem will be relegated to the "Let's ignore these petty few" pigeon hole? -
Feb 20, 2008 12:47 AM in response to Neal Jacksonby Trinity,In part it depends on you. Return the computer to Apple and they will take the problem seriously. Keep it and they will understand that is only an insignificant annoyance in very few units. -
Feb 20, 2008 4:13 AM in response to Trinityby Neal Jackson,My MacPro is being collected for a refund this afternoon - Not a replacement as people who have had replacements still experience the problem. I'm not going to stand by idly whilst Apple treat its 'Pro customers like chumps. These are not cheap computers.
Nearly everyone I have spoken with in Apple Support is now aware of this issue which makes Apple very remiss in not making a public announcement to alleviate concerns.
I suspect most consumers here will do what Apple expect: fanboy acquiescence. -
Feb 20, 2008 4:45 AM in response to transplant6by Jp Barford,I would'nt hold your breath for an Apple fix in the near future.
The artifact problem on Leopard with X1900XT was quickly forgotten. -
Feb 20, 2008 6:00 AM in response to transplant6by Trinity,One thing that I can't understand is, if they are not interested in computer market anymore, why don't they licence the OS to other manufacturers? I bought the Mac Pro grudgingly cause what I need is a regular desktop computer without monitor, with one hard drive, upgradeable, something between the Pro and the iMac. Something that Apple doesn't produce. The Mac Pro has problems and they ignore them. What is supposed that I must do now? Try Vista? -
Feb 20, 2008 6:24 AM in response to Trinityby aehaas,Issue persists and worse yet, Apple wants me to return the computer. Then I can get a refund and then I can order a new one. That could take weeks with no computer at all. I have a business to run. This is absurd. I have spent 3 hours on the phone yesterday on case number 93255142. Wow, what a run around, nobody knows what is going on and can help ever since I got disconnected from the first call. God Help Me Please. Pam in Arizona, why did you not call me back?

Feb 20, 2008 6:57 AM in response to Neal Jacksonby mweit,Neal, wondering if your Mouse swap revealed any clues, or at least a lack of problems during the subsequent 48 hours of your machine being picked up?
Like many here, have had the video freeze problems first experienced yesterday during heavy iMovie work (bought the machine about four days ago), then w/iMovie active but not in use, I experienced a video freeze up this morning and again (ironically) while reading this mail thread.
Am using blue tooth mightmouse and blue tooth keyboard but via Dlink USB adapter. My machine is 2.8 dual proc 8 core stock 2 GB memory, no 3rd party software or plug ins installed.
Sending my server away, waiting for replacement with nagging fear that it 'may' happen again is not an option for me. I blew > 4 grand which included a 23" cinema display after struggling with a G3 / B&W 350 mhz for years.
Thanks for any info you can share about prospects of a fix.

Feb 20, 2008 8:42 AM in response to mweitby Neal Jackson,I think it was simply coincidence that the problem seemed to have cleared up, Mike. It may be symptomatic of a USB problem but where that lay is anyone's guess.
I understand your frustration at having to lose your main Mac but I've decided to clone my HDD and place an order for a new MacPro unit which I shall simply slot the cloned HDD into and boot (no hassle). If the problem re-manifests that unit will also be returned to Apple.
If we all keep on doing this (and their appears to be 1000's with this problem) their Refurbished Store will have more units to sell than any of their retail stores. Ha Ha we can then get a compensatory discount and a soft/firmware fix. The real problem for us is if it is a hardware design error; then, if not returned you may end up stuck with a faulty unit for the remaining days you require it. I have a Mirrored G4 (2X1.42GHz) which has never been used outside a soundproofed cupboard as the Fans sound like a jump jet and Apple never publicly rectified that widespread problem.
The Apple Board seems to increasingly rely on customers burying our heads in the sand while they use our *rses to Tee Off in their sandpits or fritter away time whilst the Avon lady paint and perfume them up like garish transvestites.
Bottom-line: the cost of having to send replacement units to all of us will hopefully generate a response, apology (for disrespecting their customers) and fix. And not in a year or two's time as they appear to have done with their MacBook customers.
If it weren't for the superiority of their OS I'd have done and dusted with Apple years ago. -
Feb 20, 2008 9:03 AM in response to transplant6by Csteves,Add me to the list too. Stock 2.8GHz Octo-core Mac Pro, no third party RAM, occasionally resboots when waking from sleep. -
Feb 20, 2008 10:05 AM in response to aehaasby Chateaubugs,I am expecting my replacement to ship any day. Apple advised that they would release the unit (BTO w/ airport) as soon as FedEx scanned the return into their system, but that was Friday. It looks as if they they're waiting for it to arrive in California, or preferably, confirming a fix before sending out yet another dud only to absorb additional unnecessary shipping costs. -
Feb 20, 2008 10:36 AM in response to Cstevesby islk350,Got something to try. It's a little bizarre so take this as an experiment that won't cost you anything. The one report I have swears it helps but let's see if it holds up...
Open your system prefs. Go to Startup Disk. Click off your startup disk setting to something else. Close the prefs. Open the prefs again and click back onto your normal startup disk. Close the prefs. See if the wake from sleep works.
IF it does work, I'd only expect this to work for a while (more or less like clearing pram which works for some folks). Until something changes it and it stops working if it has any effect at all. -
Feb 20, 2008 10:45 AM in response to islk350by Tim3308,Hmmm. Interesting. I have done that early on when getting my machine. Since I have reset the SCM, etc. I have been in the clear w/ sleep and never had a reboot upon wake ...I wonder if mine "stuck" and did not come back w/ 10.5.2 because of the start up disk changes. Hope it works, I'm sure most are not holding their breath, though. -
