Importing mpeg files

Importing mpeg files

Dear All,

I need to edit mpeg files acquired with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3. (Canon HV20 - HDV)
I have to use Final Cut Express 4 for editing this video but I can't import this format and I can't read it in Quicktime (PRO & QuickTimeMPEG2 package installed).

Can someone help?

You might try MPEG Streamclip to convert it. If it can't do it's possible the files will not work in FCE.

You need to download MPEG Streamclip which is free to convert the MPEG to DV:-

However, if it isn't already on your computer, you will have to buy the QT MPEG 2 Playback Component which costs $20 US as a download from Apple.

Thanks for your quick answer.
I tried MPEG Streamclip and it works fine, but I hoped to be able to manage those files without conversion. Why is Adobe PPro CS3 for Mac using an unreadable format on Mac's?

Could you help me with the best settings to use in MPEG Streamclip to keep the original quality?

Probably because PP works with HDV natively which FCE doesn't. I'm guessing.

You didn't tell us the specs of the original so I'm guessing you want to use QuickTime with the Apple Intermediate Codec at 1080i50.

I don't know the specs of the PP file. Even the finder blocks if I try to read the informations.
I can open and convert it with MPEG Streamclip. Should I use AIC to get the best results?
Or should I use DVHSCap to re-acquire the file in M2T and convert it?

I'm very novice in that area!

I don't know what DVHSCap is, but if you have the original PP files you may as well convert those. If you can recapture you may as well try to recapture in FCE to get the right format without having to convert it.
