After a full restore from Time Machine - mail import is needed?

I needed to do a full restore from a previous day's system. Everything seems to have returned to normal except for a few things, like some apps seemed to be running for the first time.

The biggest inconvenience is that Mail seems to want to do an "import" of my messages. I'm afraid that's going to take forever because there are way over 100,000 messages. Is this something new in Leopard? In previous versions I would just move over the Mail folder and plist and Mail would just start up...

I have the same problem with a partial restore, only the import process crashes after a few hundred imported messages.

I restored the plist as well and disabled all bundles, yet still the same problem prevents me from using Mail.app completely.

Any ideas please?

just let Mail do it. It's doesn't take that long. It doesn't download anything, just restores the messages from the TM drive. I've done it several times without a problem. Admittedly i only have about 8000 messages compared to your 100,000.
