Image is mirrored in Photo Booth

Hi Everyone,

quick question. Whenever I take a photo or make a video using Photo Booth the result shows that everything is mirrored. What is actually on the left side in my background is at the right side on the photo or video and the print on my t-shirt reads backwards. I don't have this when I am using the camera for skype, everything normal there. It seems only Photo Booth does that. Anyone knows about this? Thanks.

Welcome to Apple Discussions, Rumpf

Apple does it that way on purpose with several applications, including Photo Booth, that use iSight to make images of ourselves. We are so accustomed to seeing ourselves in the mirror that you would think the Photo Booth preview image looked strange if it were not mirror-imaged.

If you like, you can flip existing or individual images with Preview, Photo Shop, or other image-editing software.

If you want all future images to be correct left-to-right, you can use the Photo Booth > Edit > Auto Flip New Photos menu command.

You're correct that the Autoflip only claims to work on still photos, Rumpf.

You can record videos that are not mirror imaged with iMove, but iMovie does not offer "effects" except by editing the clip after it is recorded.

You can flip a recorded movie is by using QuickTime Pro. QT Pro can use the "Visual Settings" controls in the "Video Track" section of its "Movie Properties" menu command to flip, rotate, resize, and edit other properties of an already-recorded video.

If you are into no-cost, imperfect, and unsophisticated work-arounds, one kludged alternative would be to position a mirror as best you can so you are making video of your image in the mirror.
