how to clear formatting?

Hello,

Proud, new, and first time owner of a Mac, using iWork and loving it. One question, on MS Word you could clear all formatting with Control+Space.. Is there a shortcut to do this is Pages?

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

Are you wanting to clear all formatting for an entire document or just a selected area? In either case, select the desired area, show the styles drawer & then click (maybe double-click) the Free Form style at the top of the list. This will remove all styles.

To easily select the whole document, type ⌘ A to select all. For large areas, but not the whole document, click at the beginning of the desired text then scroll down to the end, hold down the Shift key & click again. This will select everything between the two clicks.

Actually, that will only clear the paragraph styles. If you have character styles applied (e.g., a bold or italic word here or there) they will be unaffected. To clear character styles, you need to apply "None" from the Character Styles list.

(Yes, it's a single click).

Thanks. That's helpful. And actually since I copy a lot of foreign languages into onto a page, I also want it to clear that font and return to a default font, so I can insert English comments.

I tried Show Styles Drawer, then Character Styles, then selected None and it worked. I even created a hotkey so that the Apple Button + F8 now will clear formatting. Thanks everyone.

Let me know if you think there's a better way to accomplish this.

Hello

As you are using 10.5.1 you may look at the new feature of Automator.
Now, it is able to record the user's actions to replay them when asked for.
Maybe you may record the tasks which you described and link a shortcut to the recorder process.
If it works it would save you a lot of click and keypress 😉

I have no sufficient spare time to try that (as you see it's 03:50:12 here in France and I am in front of the keyboard).
