iTunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone because the iPhone disconnecte

Has anyone else experienced this? I deleted some groups from address book an now I get this message anytime I try to sync. It's really starting to get to me because the iPhone has in fact, NOT disconnected. At least physically, iTunes thinks it has and so does the phone (the sync in progress message goes away and you just see the battery charging image). The phone still shows in iTunes Devices area. I'm using the newest version of iTunes and iPhone firmware 1.1.3.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Joe

On the phone with very friendly and helpful Apple reps and managed to troubleshoot/isolate the problem to a corruption in one of the address book entries (But anyone's guess as to which one...)

To fix:
1) Export All Address Book entries to a group vCard.
2) Export each "Group" to a group vCard.
3) Delete ALL entries.
4) Reimport "All" vCard.
5) Reimport "Groups" vCards one by one. As you import each group vCard, recreate the group and drag all entries from "Last Import" into newly created "Group"
6) Your sync issues should be fixed.

Hope this helps someone else.

If this makes you nervous, the following temporary fixes both worked until another address book entry was changed:
1) Reset sync data from within iSync.
2) Select Replace information on this iPhone from within iTunes. (But you lose any changes made on the iPhone...)

I've tried both solutions provided here...restoring your iphone from iTunes as well as exporting/deleting and then reimporting all your contacts form address book. Restoring your iPhone works, UNTIL you try and sync again. Exporting, deleting and re-importing all your contacts for your address book worked...for multiple syncs to iPhone. Seems like there is a corrupted contact in the address book if this problem is happening to you.

Thanks JSRUN!

This method lost a lot of the custom fields in my address book including the "Notes" section- luckly I did an address book database backup. No good.

Then I just restored my iPhone and the problem went away. Maybe the database backup export, then deleting everything, then reimporting fixed it. Dunno.

I am having this same problem, but has nothing to do with changing my address book. All I did was upgrade to the latest iTunes. This is definately an Apple issue, because if the error message is saying something bogus like the iphone is not connected, it means that the iTunes software does not know what the heck is going on and is lost. If it REALLY is because of a corrupt data file, they need to update the message to say that, or better yet, SKIP the single corrupt record and sync everything else, then TELL you which record is corrupted.
