Q: 80g no video, only audio

i migrated from XP to Mac X 10.5.1.
reformatted my ipod to Mac.
updated ipod to 1.2.3 all was successful in this move except now i can't get video to play on my TV.
my 80G ipod used to be able to playback video and audio just fine before this migration. i'm using a non-apple a/v cable. which used to work just fine.
my 30G (5th Gen) ipod is still fine, can playback both video & audio.
all video settings are correct, TV out = ask, TV signal = PAL.
i've done the 5 Rs too. and even tried to re-store back to 1.2.1 without any luck.

just wondering if the version update changed the firmware and now the 80G has to use Apple cables or get video out thru the dock connector???
or has my video board on the ipod gone bad?

anyone who has an 80Gig v1.2.3 that CAN get video out, please help.

macbook pro, Mac OS X (10.5.1), ipod 5G 80Gigs

It appeared to me that they changed it so it has to go through the dock now. I got a message that it was waiting for me to hook up the cable, and showed a docking type cable when I tried the same thing a couple of days ago. They seem to be trying to force us to buy different cables. If you saved your prior Ipod software version you could go back to that, I think. I didn't, so I just bought a new cable to try. Monster iTV link that goes through the docking hook-up.

Negatory. Just bought the dock. Audio only; no video with my composite or component cables. Those were expensive too. ********; it used to work.

My video signal has to be set to: NTSC
Maybe that's a US vs UK thing? Has PAL been what you've always used?

what itunes version are you running?
    and what ipod version?

mine used to work just fine until i upgraded the itunes/ipod software versions.

i have to set it to PAL as i'm in the UK.

it all used to work and now does not.
    very frustrating.

Have you tried setting TV Out to "On"?

Exactly. North America (and some other parts of the world) use the NTSC system, whereas Europe uses PAL:

    PAL-NTSC-SECAM

Luckily, those import DVD music singles (region-free) encoded for PAL I've bought over the years will still play in our SuperDrives - they read both formats.

    Interesting discussion.

I have a set of RGB "component" cables from Apple hooked up to a 32" Philips HDTV. I installed "Curb your Enthusiasm" to both my 5th Gen iPod and my 3G iPhone from the same download from the Apple Store.

The iPhone drives the TV just fine; like a champ. The iPod produces great audio, but the video is trashed; wavy lines on the TV that makes it all seem very out of sync, but some kind of a signal is there. The hookup is therefore correct and I have the "good cables." And yes, the iPod output is configured correctly, too; TV is "on," and the output is set to the right type.

    Ideas?

OMG! I feel a bit silly that setting to TV output ON solved a problem I've been working on for over a year. I've purchased half a dozen cables or devices trying to play my iPod videos on the TV. I had just decided by iPod was broken and stumbled upon this forum. Thanks for the help!
