Is anyone syncing with Palm and isync (leopard) successfully?

I've been reading lots of problems on this issue, was wondering if it was universal or if some are having success.

2d ago I seemed to be able to sync (at least get data from palm into address book), but was getting lots of conflicts in data. So then I reset sync for my palm device and told isync to overwrite the device. Since then after erasing my contacts on the palm, syncing seems to carry thru (by having a "successful" sync operation), but it happens very quickly, then nothing seems to happen (no data goes into the palm anymore)

I was wondering if anyone has had completely successful syncing 2 way using Leopard and isync with a Palm device.
If not, I guess I'll stop trying!

I'm having the same problem on a Zire 71, and it seems clear a LOT of other people are experiencing the same symptoms. Don't hold your breath for an answer from Apple though. They seem to have washed their hands of having a reliable sync between their own hardware and applications, much less with anything Palm!!

After I reset, I got nothing as well. This really *****. I blame Apple.

Looks like I should have stuck with Entourage and the Palm Desktop after all...

Yes, that is correct - I had no problems prior to upgrade to Leopard now when trying to sync no connection seems to be made. I think it is most likely the USB232 cable that is causing my problem which is why I was hoping someone syncing a Palm V could tell me how they were connecting. Is there a USB cradle for the Palm V? I can't seem to find anything other than the USB232 cable

I can't find an updated driver for it. willing to purchase different sync device if it works. The cable works fine on my G4 laptop which is still running 10.4 but would prefer to run from desktop since apps I sync to and back ups are done regularly on my desktop.

I, too, am having the sync problem with my Treo 650. I've tried everything, including one of the suggestions here stating choose just contacts, or just address book, but it still doesn't work. I've gone so far as to do a hard-reset of my Treo. Unfortunately for me, this has now left my Address Book and Calendar on my Treo complete blank (entryless).

Any ideas?

No, they are apparently actively researching the problems. I filed a bug report about syncing issues, and in less than a week had received a request to generate detailed logs of the problem.

Just to make it very clear, posting issues in the forums will only get you assistance from other Mac users, not Apple, who generally do not monitor problem reports here. If you find a real bug, and are willing to take the time to make a proper bug report, your issue will generally get attention. So far, every bug report I made has gotten a response and, eventually, a fix. Note that the fixes may be a while in coming.

I also found myself with a blank Palm device. For Address Book, here's what I did: Open Address Book app, highlight the Group of addresses that you want to transfer, then go to File menu and select Export to vCard. Then open the Palm Desktop application and import the vCard file. Then run a sync and the Palm Desktop data should be imported by the Palm device. NOTE: before syncing, you have to remove the iSync conduit from Hotsync Manager and replace with the original Palm conduits (ie. Address and Contacts).

After ten days of heartache and experimentation, I can now Sync almost perfectly between Entourage 2008 under 10.5 and my Palm Treo 650.
The only exception is any changes to contacts made on the Treo make it back to Address Book but not to Entourage.
In all other cases, any new or altered event syncs perfectly between the platforms, and any new or altered contact made in Entourage syncs to the Palm.
Here’s what you have to do, and don’t leave anything out. You need to get “Missing Sync” from Mark/Space.
You need to start with a clean Entourage database. So, spent as long as it takes to remove all the duplicate events, etc. and then back up the database so you don’t to go through the mess again!
Next step is to remove all the Palm Desktop OS files, trash them, and reboot. You will be syncing using Mark/Space conduits entirely, therefore Palm is irrelevant, and in fact, as it works in the background, slows down the CPU. Do not trash any Palm Document files. (you might be able to, but I didn’t want to risk losing backups, etc)
Set up Missing Sync so that only the Mark/Space Contacts and Events conduits are checked “on”. Don’t check any other contacts, calendar, Date Book etc. conduits. Also check any conduits that are specific to you. You can also check the Call Log and SMS conduits if you like. This way you will have a copy of your Treo call log on your Mac.
Open iSycn ONCE only, and ensure that you do NOT have the “Enable Palm Syncing” option checked. You will not be using iSync to sync to your Palm – you will be using the Missing Sync.
Open Entourage preferences, and uncheck in Sync Services all the boxes.
Reboot.
Open it again, check the boxes this time, then check the option to over right iCal and Address Book.
Within a minute or maybe less, all your data from Entourage is now accurately in iCal and Address Book. Do NOT delete or uncheck any of the probably four calendars in iCal at the moment. The only one that is relevant is “Entourage”, and when you enter a new event on your Palm, you must categorize it as “Entourage”. If you don’t get into that habit, it will be synced to the “unfilled” calendar in iCal and never make it back to Entourage. (I suspect that is also the issue with contacts going back to Entourage, they don’t make it passed Address Book).
You are ready for your first sync to the Palm.
In the Missing Sync, just choose the Mark/Space Contacts conduit. Highlight the Contacts coduit, then choose the settings, and select “Overwrite handheld with desktop data”.
Start the sync from your Treo – best to use a cable. You could use Bluetooth, but it’s slower.
After the sync, (keep your fingers, eyes and legs crossed during the process) everything should be perfect.
Then try the Mark/Space Events conduit. Same thing, Overwrite Handheld with desktop data.
Should be fine.
Now do a complete sync. Only check the Mark/Space conduits that you need, and any special conduits relevant to your situation, such as “AA Flights”, Zagat Guide, etc. etc.
Experiment.
Enter new contacts or events in Entourage and Address Book and iCal. You will see that they all sync back and worth very quickly.
Sync to the Palm. They will all be there.
Enter a new event or alter an event in Palm. New event ensure it is categorized as “Entourage”.
Sync – it will be in Entourage. Once again, the only issue is a new or altered contact does not make it back to Entourage.
Hopefully either Apple or Microsoft will address this issue within the next couple of weeks.
Hope this works for you!

Ken,

While not an elegant solution, I will give this a try. I'm also wondering if this approach would work with the calendar, i.e. exporting each calendar you need and then importing to the Palm Desktop, followed by a HotSync to the Treo.

Thanks for the suggestion!

It does not work with iCal because the export format of the iCal file cannot be imported into Palm Desktop

I've gotten it working reasonably with my Verizon Treo 650 and iSync 3.0, going to iCal and Address Book. I'll get to trying Entourage next.

Stating the somewhat obvious, you've got to have the iSync conduit installed.

From the Palm site I learned that I had to go into 'Wireless Sync' on the Treo and go to Settings ... Connections ... Advanced ... and check 'Enable other sync apps'. Another option presented there is to disable Wireless Sync, but I did not try that. Not sure how other than to go into Settings ... What To Sync ... and deselect each app individually. If you don't have Wireless Sync then presumably none of this part applies to you.

So when I say 'reasonably', I mean ... iCal sync works just fine bidirectionally, if I do not have Contacts checked in iSync. If I have Contacts checked, iCal sync will not work. Until I find a way around that, or get a fix, I am resigned to syncing with Contacts checked (for Address Book), then syncing again with Contacts unchecked (for iCal), in order to reach a happy place.

OK I'll tell you how to do it. Apple has changed iSync so the old application cannot be accessed by using the iSync logo in the menu bar. So go to Applications and run iSync, then click on the Treo device and a drop down window will open. Click "Force slow synchronisation" and then sync twice.

Ta da, should work, fixed everything for me thank god, I live and die my Treo, I've looked at all the others Rim, iPhone and Windows Mobile and none can provide the important applications I use most. I know Palm is going to die in the long run, but by that stage Apple will have released the SDK to the iPhone, so with finger crossed...

Is anyone syncing with Palm and isync (leopard) successfully?
