First time recording since upgrade. Major delay after pressing record...

Hello,

I've been mixing projects / doing some midi based stuff since updating to Logic 8 a couple of weeks ago but it was only tonight when I needed to do some actual audio recording. I set my project up as normal, recording path is set correctly, track is armed, press record...then nothing but the rainbow cursor spinning for approx 3 mins then it starts recording like I'd just clicked it.

It does it every time you press record, not just the first time.

Any ideas?

Hi,

The most probable cause for this waiting is that your audio hard drive, the one you are going to record audio onto, is too fragmented, and it takes Logic longer to allocate space for the new audio files.

I suggest you get a defragmentation software. There are a few good ones out there.

Also make sure the drive to which you're recording is formatted 'Mac OS' and not for any Windows format, or else you will have major problems.

And make sure you uncheck the box 'Put the hard disks to sleep when possible' in the Energy Saver preferences.

Are you recording to a drive with the wrong format type?

There are can be issues unless your audio drive is formatted to OSX(extended).

Select the drive in the Finder, and GET INFO to check.

Sounds right..although I'm using exactly the same drive / set up as when I was using Logic 7 and it worked fine then. I'll try recording straight o my internal and see what happens.

Hi it's funny i had the same problem the 1st time. what u have to do is set up your record path whats happening is it's searching all over the place. once u set it up it will take of or start without delay.

the order 1st goto settings in top left then click the word set down the bottom the order is library then application support then logic

Hi,

If this was a hard drive you bought and just started to work on, THAT'S how it happened. You did not check to see what the drive's format is.

Here's how to fix it:

1. BACKUP ALL DATA TO ANOTHER DRIVE / DVDs

2. See 1, above and make SURE you've done step one, above first.

3. REFORMAT the hard drive, using Apple's hard disk utility (applications / utilities / hard disk utility.app). Use the option for safe formatting (it takes longer, but cleans up the whole drive with zeroes, this is better than just re-partitioning it, which does not erase the data).

4. Move the audio back onto the newly formatted drive, and enjoy a better experience.

Also make sure that "journaling" is deactivated on the drive you're recording at.
You can selct that in the apple harddisk utilities. It will improve speed!
