Power Cord Tearing/Breaking

Hi,

My MBP power adapter cord is tearing/ripping apart from the head connector that attaches to the Mac (the magnetic end). The adapter still works, but I am weary to continue its use with the fibers being exposed.

This adapter is from a gen 2 MBP, and I thought I read awhile ago that new adapters had since been made. But I could not find any articles detailing a recall or such a defect, hence this post. Is there any replacement policy/do you think it will be covered under warranty?

Also, if there is anyway to post pictures let me know and I will post one of the damage...

Thank you for any and all help,
TM

the same exact thing has happened to me just recently... i have mine duct taped for the time being, however, if i touch the wire or move my MBP the light one the magnetic connect turns off and the wire begins to turn off... i have priced new ones at nearly $80!! which i feel is too much, especially if you read some of the reviews which say that some have melted or even caught fire...

I noticed that mine was separating in the same place. It was just starting, so I put a drop of glue in the rubber sleeve-seems to be working just fine. Then I traded that power adapter to my desk, where it does not get wrapped up all of the time, and am using the other one (still looks new after 2 years) to my computer bag. I found out years ago, that for me having two is the way to go...

Same with me. After 1 and 1/2 year of careful usage, the junction of the cord to the main power unit has begun to melt. It will become unusable in a few days and the Apple Support is careless about it. There are hundreds of reviews like that on the Apple Store MacBook Pro Power Adaptor page ( http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?rs=newe st&pg=9&mco=C6DC3437&revw=MA938LL/A ) and complaints here on the Apple Support Discussions. Apple should put it on the Exchange + Repair Extension Programs NOW!
