Active Directory, Users, and Applications
I've done a little perusing of the forums here and so far have not run across anyone trying to do this. Or at least no explanation of how to do this.
I have a Win2003 Server running Active Directory. Now, within Windows, one of the cool things is that I do not have to set up a user on a desktop client. I simply set up their ID on the server and they can log in at any machine and use the programs on that machine (provided they have privileges granted at the server).
I wanted to do the same thing for my Macs (once I discovered that they could log into an Active Directory server). But what I found is that when I log in with an AD user ID (the user account does not exist on the local Mac), none of the programs will launch. I'm guessing that somehow I have to grant privileges on the local machine to a domain "group", but I'm not sure how to do that.
If I must, I can define each user on the local machine but it would be nice if I could take advantage of this Active Directory feature.
Anyone have any experience doing this? Or am I still too vague?
