Internet loss after 24 hours and/or after "sleep mode"

I have had a strange problem for some time now and have no idea how to fix it.

I leave my computer on 24/7, but after 24 hours, or close to it, my internet connection goes down. I know the connection is still there, it just doesn't work. The only way for me to get back online when this happens is to restart. Then everything works fine again.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I tried to find a fix for it, but cannot seem to find any information at all. This is getting very frustrating, especially since several of my college courses are online this semester.

I have the same problem only the way I fix it is to unplug and re-plug in the ethernet cord to the router and then my computer "knows" it's connected again.

I'm so annoyed by this it's making me want to break my computer! I really really wish someone could tell me why this is happening all of a sudden and how to fix it. This didn't start happening until I got my DSL service. when I was using a cable modem, it never happened.

I have a similar problem too.

My broadband connection is through a speedtouch 330 modem via a USB2 port.

When I try to connect (through internet connect) a message first says 'connecting' and changes to 'disconnecting'. This goes on and on until all I can do is restart my machine. After then it is fine for around 24 hours.

Sometimes when I try to connect the 'Restart' screen comes up straightaway and I have to turn off using the manual power button.

I maintain my machine with OnyX and everything seem ok elsewhere.

Does anyone know how to sort this? Its just a minor blemish on an otherwise perfectly performing iBook.

I have two related problems. I connect to the internet (via Internet Connect) by means of an Alcatel Speedtouch USB broadband modem.

The minor problem is that the modem seems to take some time to start up when I start my computer, with the result that Internet Connect has been trying to connect for a while by the time the modem is functioning. As a result, it is quite common for connection to fail the first time, and I have to wait for disconnection and then try again.

The more major problem is that if I disconnect from the internet and put the computer to sleep, when I wake it up again, Internet Connect sometimes tries but fails to connect and starts to 'disconnect'. But because it was not connected, it cannot disconnect, and 'Disconnecting' goes on for ever until I finally shut down and restart the computer. This wastes a lot of time, and it would be good to be able to stop Internet Connect from 'Disconnecting' when there is nothing to disconnect. I have tried various things, but have not found a way of stopping it.

I am coming back to this. The only solution to both of my problems (as described earlier in this thread) I have so far discovered is to set Internet Connect not to come on automatically when starting the computer. This (for someone as forgetful as I am) creates its own time-wasting annoyance.

My main question is: if I have disconnected from the internet and put the computer to sleep, then restarted, and Internet Connect has gone into its endlessly continuing 'Disconnecting' behaviour, is there any way of stopping it other than restarting the computer? Force Quit does not do it: I can use it to shut Internet Connect down, but 'Disconnecting' continues. (I am using an external broadband modem.)

Hi,
Apologies in advance because I am not a techie. But I am frustrated by similar problems as follows:
I have a speedtouch usb dsl connection to the internet. I mostly leave my computer on and let it go to sleep. I don't stay connected to the internet all the time, only when I need so I connect manually. When I wake the computer up and connect to check mail, I also get the computer trying to connect, then automatically disconnecting and then it stays in a loop and the only way to solve this is to restart. Extremely frustrating. If however the computer has been switched off completely and I start it up and try to connect it always disconnects the first time before authenticating (but it doesn't go into a loop). Then the next time I manually connect it does so really quickly.
I haven't tried connecting to the internet for 24 hours so I wouldn't know if it disconnects then but I'm guessing it would.
Please somebody help us to sort this problem!
Thanks in advance,
Qatarsarah
