i had a 4 gig phone until a few days ago, my battery would last three days usually, or at least until i get home to recharge while sleeping, now im lucky if i make it through the day. i have the same settings on this 8 gig, mail, brightness, lock, etc...etc... etc..
have noticed quite a few posts stating people having similar problems just hoping apple notice the issue and addresses it

I don't see that they need to release a fix, as I see no issue.

Three iPhones in our household. One bought on the release date. All typically get charged every other day unless the kids do a lot of heavy web surfing.

Of course all, including the kids, follow Apple's "best practices" as far as extending battery life is concerned.

I don't understand. What are the odds that we get three iPhones, all updated to 1.1.3, that have always gotten great battery life, and others have battery life issues? It seems like a subjective issue to me, rather than an objective problem.

I've heard that the 1.2 release will include some changes/improvements at the kernel level that will both improve battery performance and possibly up the speed of the processor (so things move more quickly when multitasking). That's just a rumor at this point.

Keep an eye on the web pages you're on. I've noticed, for example, that a few really basic web apps are battery hogs. Games I've played have been notorious. While some only need to hit the web server at each new level, a disturbing number of them have to connect to the web site after each move since the computer player AI effectively lives on the remote web site. Other web apps reload unnecessarily, possibly so they can serve you ads. Check to make sure you don't have a bundle of open web pages sitting there, especially if the web apps are resource hogs.

Check that battery usage page too, it's got a lot of the basics covered. While you've probably already thought of and taken care of 85%, the other 15% might include a tip that makes things significantly better for you.

Lately I'm finding that I only need to recharge every couple days. That's not too much of a problem for me, since I can pretty much dock it every night if need be. I switched off the bluetooth, and most recently I started switching off the wifi when I'm out and about since it annoys the **** out of me to constantly be asked if I want to join every other private wifi network I pass by while using.

Good luck!

I bought the iPhone last week and the battery was running down rapidly.

I did what someone else suggested on here. Let the battery run out until it turns itself off (play a movie or something non-stop). Then give it a full recharge.

Since I've done this, the battery indicator has been spot on. 2 days in with usage of all things and it's only down to 3/4 full!

Like other problems, battery life seems to be phone dependent. I leave Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on all the time. I get a good 8 hours of service from the battery. I do pop it on the charger at the office to top off during the day. The battery life is as good as my Blackberry 8200. Of course you're not going to see the battery life that you might get with a Motorola RAZR. The iPhone has a lot more stuff going on. The battery life I get beats the Apple advertized life. So do a top off during the day and you're good until you head to bed for a full charge.

The radios refer to Bluetooth and WiFi which both operate over radio waves, and which are both notorius battery killers, on any mobile device (wireless headsets not withstanding).

For what it's worth, my battery gets a hammering if I'm using WiFi, but conversely... The other day I went into london, watched a film on the train and then an audio podcast (both battery killers on previous gen ipods with hard-drives) then a random selection of music for a couple of hours and a couple of phone calls. It hardly made a dent in the battery. My old ipod would have about half charge left at that stage, and it didn't have a phone on standby in the background. V impressed

48 hours is not bad at all for the iPhone. That's what I was getting on my iPhone since day one with the original iPhone firmware.

Since 1.1.2 came out, I have been getting about 3 days standby and with 1.1.3 it's about the same. I currently have about 3/4 of the battery left and 1 day 17 hours standby. Of course if you are using it to watch videos, that will wipe out your battery life quicker than anything. WiFi and bluetooth are also battery killers, mine are always off.

unless your on it with the brightness turned all the way up using blue tooth and/or wifi all day you really shouldnt be having that bad of battery life. i use my phone pretty little compared to a lot of people (about 1 hour of "use" per day ) but i can go for 4 days if i stay at that little usage, when i was home over winter break i barely touched my phone and it lasted days upon days with out charging.

the way i figure out how much battery % wise i have is i look at the days X 10% and the hours used X 10% and that is able to give me a pretty close estimation... given now im not using wifi or bluetooth and my brightness is set to auto dim, mail does not auto check, so that helps some too.

if you have gone through 3 phones and the battery life is all bad for you either 1- your just using the phone a lot or have it set to things that waste battery or 2- you sim card might be messed up and be causing the battery to drain (dirty connections on sim cards can to it as well)
