Help with the dialog box that opens up on the desktop..

When I plug in my iPhone, it automatically opens up a dialog on my PC (XPPro/SP2) that offers to open up an app from a list.

I do NOT want this to happen, ie when I plug in my iPhone to charge same, I do not want it to open up anything.

How can I turn that opening up box OFF, and there are no checkboxes etc. to help me do that!

JVRudnick,

Assuming you haven't modified your iPhone, that could be the Scanner and Camera Wizard that comes up when Windows recognizes the iPhone as a digital camera.

If you set the default application for managing digital cameras it won't happen.

Alternatively if there are no pictures on the camera roll on the iPhone it won't come up either.

Hope this helps,

Nathan C.

With your iPhone connected and available in the iTunes source list under devices, under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences is a selection "Automatically sync when this iPhone is connected" which should prevent iTunes from launching automatically if not already launched when your iPhone is connected to your computer.

Does your iPhone contain any photos that were captured by the iPhone and have not been transferred to your computer or removed from the iPhone after being transferred? If your iPhone contains photos captured by the iPhone, it is also recognized as a digital camera when connected to your computer and the iPhone includes no setting to prevent the iPhone from being recognized as a digital camera if it contains photos captured by the iPhone but if there are none available, this won't occur.

Long story short this involves a setting on your PC to not automatically launch an application for importing photos captured by the iPhone if the iPhone contains such photos - or being prompted to select an application for importing the photos. Maybe someone with a PC for syncing with their iPhone will have the answer.

As I included with my previous post, there is no iPhone setting for this - the only iPhone setting available in this regard is not automatically sync with iTunes when connected to your computer.

This is a setting on your PC in regards to when a digital camera is connected - if this occurs only when your iPhone includes photos captured by the iPhone.

As provided by someone else, if you are using a hacked iPhone for use with any GSM network provider and/or have modified your iPhone to install additional software not provided by Apple, there are probably other things going on with this and if so, you are on your own with a hacked/modified iPhone.

JVRudnick,

I believe in the list that pops up one of the options is "Do Nothing" or something similar. Then at the bottom there is a check box for always do this when this kind of device is connected. You will not be prompted after that. However, you should still take the time to import the pictures from time to time off of your iPhone. You can do so by right clicking on the iPhone in My Computer, and choose how you want to import the pictures.

However, if you connect a digital camera in the future, you won't get the pop-up then either, and will have to go to My Computer and right click on the camera.

Hope this helps,

Nathan C.
