Some confusion about unlimited text plans

I have my iPhone on my own personal account and am just getting the 200 text messages for the additional $20 per month. I have been told by a couple of people that there isn't any way to bundle packages together with the iPhone, that is, if you want unlimited texting you have to pay $40 per month for each phone. My wife has four phones through her plan, including our two college daughters. She pays an addition $30 per month I believe for unlimited texting on all four phones. I have been told by a couple of other people that there is some way to create unlimited texting without spending the full $40 per phone. Right now my daughters have Samsung sliders, but I might consider eventually putting them into an iPhone is I don't have to spend an additional $80 per month to cover their extensive texting habits. Anyone??

Ok i had the exact same issue, and if you have a family plan with your iphone and at least one other kind of phone that isnt and iphone, just ask customer service to make the other line the primary line and add the unlimited family texting to that line for 29.95/month. make sure you tell them to take off whatever text plan you may have already added to your iphone line and that should do it. i went through 2 or 3 billing cycles like this and i have not been charged incorrectly. so yeah in a sense they cannot add it to your iphone if your iphone is the primary number, but if you have another line w/any other phone just make that primary. hope this helps

The whole point of a "family" unlimited texting plan is that it's unlimited for the whole family, all our phones. I'm paying $29.99 for the family unlimited texting plan. I'm paying $20 for my iphone plan, $29 for my wife's blackberry unlimited data plan, and my daughter doesn't have a data plan. All three of us can text as much as we like, and the charge every month is $29.99, and it appears under my line, yes, the iphone's line.

So, perhaps someone has messed up somewhere, but this is how it's been working for me.

Like I said it may work for a while but the system will notice and it will be corrected. I happens every day, someone calls in because a feature they have been using stops because it is not designed for the mobile profile/IMEI, the system catches on, they no longer have use of the feature and call in to complain. It happened when the Blackjack came out, people were able to use the MMS/Media Net bundle they had from their previous device(ususally a RAZR) with no problem, then one day NOTHING! The same is true for the iPhone, I took 3 calls on this issue alone today. AT&T has as of last week completely revamped all data packages and messaging bundles, they didn't just round up all of the pricing. They have also started tying the IMEI to the specific feature codes to prevent this going forward. This means they will notice and it will stop. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Oh, and if you have a Laptop and air card with Unlimited service there is now a 5GB limit to data usage.

I'm glad you work for AT&T; now I can ask you: the family unlimited texting plan advertised on their site does not state anywhere that I can find that it only applies to family members who do not have an iphone. Can you point me to anywhere that states that the family unlimited text plan does not include any iphones? Seems to me it would have to be stated very clearly in the description of the unlimited plan. I can't find it.

In any event, mine's been working this way just fine.

What I don't understand is why wouldn't they include the iPhone? It's not costing them very much if they include the iPhone....as the only benefit an iPhone would get from it is text messaging....while every other phone line benefits from text messaging, picture messaging, video messaging and IM with anyone in the U.S.! It just seems ridiculous to me that if you have a family plan and they offer a package for a family plan....that they wouldn't include all the phones on the "Family Plan"!

So far it shows up on my "Family Plan"....but not sure for how long that will last!

It use to be listed and I even proved it to customer service when I first inquired.....just before Christmas! Funny how it is no longer listed under the compatible phones....but I swear it was there in December and I personally showed it to an AT&T rep! When it was on there.....it was the first phone listed! It said......'Apple iPhone'!

The only place I found a list of "compatible" phones was on a page that I couldn't see the url, but yes it did not list the iphone. Weird, that's a $30/mo. plan, and it's not the one I've been paying for. The one I agreed to with my new 2 year contract had no such limit on the kind of phone. If they switched plans or phones, I suppose they'll notify me that the plan I'm on is no longer available. Until then, I'll keep using the $29.99 unlimited plan.

Are you saying that at some point in the future ATT's computers are going to go over everyone's prior bills and see if they have been on a family text plan with an Iphone??? And if so, then they are going to "re-do" those old bills and remove the unlimited portion and charge you for all those text message overages??? I don't think so...
