iPod Touch vs. iPhone

Hi,

I'm considering getting an iPod touch to fill my touch screen curiosity while Apple make the iPhone v2 (3G I hope).

I was just wondering if there is any performance differences between the iPhone and the iPod touch (other than no network access) when browsing over wifi or using mail?

Also, what happens if you get an email (from gmail) into your apple mail and you access it on your iPod - will it also appear in your mac or will it be effectively intercepted?

Cheers

I get emails on both. I check an email on my iPod, then when I check on my Mac I'm like "*** I already checked this email". Yes, it sends the email to both places.

The only real difference I can see is that the iPhone has a camera and the iPod Touch doesn't. Other than that, the bluetooth, and the phone, there's pretty much no difference between the two. Other than the fact that the iPod Touch is smaller in hight, and is thinner.

If you can stand ATT's service, then the iPhone is the right choice. As said already, the iPhone won't disappoint you every time a few apps are made available.

Also, I have ATT, and don't like the service, but I'm still stuck with them for a long time. I recently got a text message plan, and I know that I would love to get rid of my (albeit very nice) phone with the number pad to be able to do text messaging with the intelligent iPhone...

As Mrtotes pointed out, the Touch does not lock you in to a two year contract. Having just come off one of those with Sprint (and being very unhappy for most of the time) I'd say that if the money is no object, go for the Phone, because you "get more" ... the Touch is most useful (for e-mail and web) only when you are at a hot spot; whereas with the phone you are good to go whenever your cell phone is within range. Very much depends on which features you care about.
