Can't add page to Home screen because an error occurred

I finally had a moment to upgrade to 1.1.3, and everything works great, except for web clips, which is the one thing I really wanted to do! I go to a web page, click the plus sign, and choose "Add to Home Screen". It shows the icon for the page and lets me change the name. Then when I click "add", I get the following error message:

"Could not add this page to the Home screen because an error occurred."

This happens so far on any site I try it on, whether or not the site has a pre-made iPhone icon. I have already tried restoring my phone with no luck. Anyone know what's going on?

Try clearing the Safari Cache on the iPhone and while you are at it, clear the History also.

Return to Safari. Press and hold the Home button until Safari quits and the iPhone returns to the Home screen.

Then do a Reset and try again.

Thanks for the tips. I tried all that with no luck. I then proceeded to erase all settings. No luck there. I decided to go extreme, and delete all content and settings. Still doesn't work!

This seems like such a dumb thing, but it's still happening after two restores, clearing cache, resetting settings, and erasing all data! The only other thing I can think would be to restore the iPhone without bringing info from backup, but that would mean re-entering EVERYTHING. I'll try it I suppose, unless someone else knows a way around this.

There must be something afoul with your iPhone's backup file but if you tried deleting all data and settings from the iPhone and then tried it without restoring from your backup, something else is wrong so if a restore as a new iPhone or not from the backup does not work either, you need to call AppleCare - (800) 694-7466.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah it was the backup file apparently. I had to do a restore without loading from the backup to get things working again. sigh

At least I'm back up an running.

I have this problem. Everything else is OK. Does that mean you lost all your contacts and everything? When you did the restore, you just sent for it to restore from blank? and then it worked? I wondered if I upgrade to 1.1.4 if it would overwrite whatever the problem is? Guess I could try that first.

I have this exact problem on my itouch. Very strange as previously I had added 2 icons, did a restore the icons are still there. But now I cant add anymore. Weird. if you get a fix, let me know!

its a relief that other people are having the same problem. i've been searching for a fix for this ever since i updated to 1.1.3. if anyone has a solution i would really appreciate it!
