itunes stops responding once i plug in my ipod nano

WOW! So my comp all of a sudden froze while my ipod was still connected so i manually shutdown and rebooted but afterwards....my ipod no longer read.
(i can see it in "my computer")

I start up itunes but the task manager says its not responding...so after i eject it from "my computer" itunes all of a sudden responds and says restore it. So i click restore but gives me "could not restore unknown error:1418" so now....here i am.
Appreciate any suggestions! Thanks

P.S: already tried downloading old version 6.05
rebooting like 50 times
Reinstalling latest itunes
reseting ipod

hp, Windows Vista
