ipOD will not come on

Is it possible that the "button" you press to start play can be worn out? I can not get the shuffle green light to come on. I continually press and 9 out of 10 times it won't come on. I think the button is just worn out.. This shuffle is about 5 years old. Any suggestions, or has it outlasted it's lifespan. Thanks

As far as I know, the 1st Gen shuffle was introduced at the beginning of 2005 ...
so IF you have a shuffle it's not even close to "about 5 years old". It's possible that the PLAY button has gotten dirt in it... BUT are you actually referring to the ON/SHUFFLE switch in the back? It can also get crudded up.

See ifixit.com for a guide on taking shuffle apart.

I am so disgusted with this thing and the "so-called" support. I received my ipod shuffle for Christmas. It was purchased at WalMart approximately 1 week before Christmas 2007! Sometimes the on/off switch works and sometimes it doesn't. I know it was fully charged, but when I got up early to use it on my treadmill, it would not turn on. This has happened 4 times and I'm very frustrated and discouraged. It almost looks as if 1 side of it is bulging slightly. This is EXACTLY how I took it out of the package. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i can't get my ipod shuffle to come on at all. I can't seem to figure out how to get an answer to what is wrong with my ipod anywhere on the web site. I'd really like to post the question...but it seems it is super difficult to just post a question. My shuffle went dead yesterday, probably the battery. I can't get any lights to come on no matter what I have tried. None of my computers will get any lights to come on. I think it's shot and I should just send it back...any thoughts?

Okay, it is NOT the shuffle switch on the back.... No crud on my shuffle...it is in mint clean condition.... ifixit.com has many hints but consider my problem extremly difficult.... and I don't own a soldering iron.... guess it is time for the genius bar next time I go to the Apple Store..

Sorry, but given that your shuffle is past the warranty period they won't do anything for you except suggest trading it in (10% discount) on a new one.
