Blackberry and iSync?

I have a Blackberry Pearl... It does not work with iSync, right? Does anyone use The Missing Sync?

I also have a Blackberry Pearl and I use Missing Sync. I find that it works very well synchronizing iCal and Address Book items. It installs its own notes application for syncing notes. You do have the option of syncing to Yojimbo, or Entourage 2004 for notes. Things missing are: the ability to install software to your BB. You have to do this over the air, or have access to a Windows machine. If you read various forums on using Missing Sync with a mac and BB, there are a lot of people who have problems, but my experience has been very good thus far.

I just purchased the MBA and i have a BB Curve. My business uses a proprietry CRM that is a windows based databse. If i sync'd the BB from my windows machine and then upsync'd (for lack of a better term, as you can tell i am a novice with technology)it to entorage on the MBA, would that work? What if i changed something in entourage, would it then change it on the BB? I would like my phone, the MBA and the company data base to always be on the same page. I am not too concerned about me making changes, as i could forward those to my sec'y and she could make changes in the company system but i would like to have the data consistant on both the MBA and the BB.

Kristi, I must say I love my Blackberry Pearl. I switched to BB from a Palm Treo 700p. The difference is tremendous! The Treo was fine when it wasn't freezing, lagging, or shutting down randomly, but the performance of the BB Pearl has been flawless. And it does a lot more. What will really determine if you will be happy with it is what you intend to sync. It does well with iCal and Address Book. You will get tasks from iCal, and Notes syncing with either Mark Space Notes (comes with Missing Sync), Yojimbo (Bare Bones Software), or Entourage Notes in Microsoft Office 2004. Entourage 2008 is a different story and is causing users quite a bit of problem. In short, Blackberries work better with PCs because that's what Research in Motion fully supports, but using Missing sync provides an adequate experience for us Mac users.

Your situation will be much more complicated. First it depends on which version of Entourage you plan to use. Pockmac software (free download & provided by RIMM) syncs with Entourage 2004, but not 2008. The 2008 version discontinues the use of any MS created conduits and relies entirely on Apple's Sync Services. What that means is that your Entourage 2008 would actually have to sync with iCal and Address Book on the Mac and not sync directly with your BB or Office System. With Entourage 2004 I have actually had success syncing with MS Exchange Server at the office. If you can use 2004, you can configure your MBA to sync with the office system, then use Pocket Mac to sync with your BB. One other note for anyone trying to use a BB with a Mac: PocketMac and Missing Sync are your only sync programs and you may be tempted to try them both. BOTH PROGRAMS CANNOT BE INSTALLED ON YOUR MACHINE AT THE SAME TIME. They will conflict and neither will work.

Good luck

I have a blackberry pearl and I love it. I wish T-mobile had Iphone though. Anyway, I wireless sync with my office computer, so all my contacts, calendar etc. syncs between those two. If I try the isync for my personal ical, would it delete any of the data? Would it allow me to have two separate sync accounts if you will?
Thanks.

iSync does not work with Blackberry at all. You must use a third party sync software; either PocketMac or The Missing Sync for Blackberry. But you could sync with your office computer, as you said, and sync with your Mac at home using one of the aforementioned programs. It would synchronize the info on your BB. You would not need two sync accounts. Caution would have to be taken to avoid duplicate entries. With your BB already full of information from your office sync, you would need to set your first sync up with PocketMac or Missing Sync where your BB would overwrite the info on your Mac.

Hope that helps a little.

Just to add two cents about syncing a BlackBerry, a Mac and Lotus Notes. We use Lotus Notes and its proprietary server software for our office calendaring, email, etc. I don't like it at all, but it wasn't my decision (thankfully) and it has a very robust Mac client to match its Windows client, so I have been able to use first a PowerBook and now a MacBook Pro for these past three years. I used to run Lotus Notes on the Windows side, as well as the Mac side just so I could sync my Treo through Lotus's sync software. Cumbersome, but it worked like a charm, except that it left iCal out. A year ago, several of us went to BBs and the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, as the BES can push Lotus Notes data, including calendar and email. I have used PocketMac and it is worth less than the free download from BlackBerry. I use Missing Sync, but even then all is far less than perfect. I am convinced that syncing is as much art as science. Whether you remember to turn off wireless BES syncing to the BB before syncing it with iCal and Address Book through Missing Sync seems to be the key and even then, every so often I have to do a global reset of all sync histories and overwrite the BB with iCal and replace Lotus Notes Contacts with vCards from Address Book. Not pretty and it certainly does not provide the total confidence that syncing should provide. But it works until iPhone syncs with BES or the Lotus Notes server. And I am not holding my breath on that one, since the word at ATT is that the new BlackBerries will sync with Outlook and Microsoft Exchange. So, the only game in town right now for Macs and BBs seems to be MarkSpace's Missing Sync. But in the final analysis, it is more than worth the hassle to be able to have fun using a Mac at work and at home.

I have not used PocketMac. I was already using Missing Sync with Palm before I switched, so I just stayed with the familiar program. I get no duplicates with MS, and there is a settings panel where you assign a location for things you enter on your BB and sync to your mac. MS is not perfect though. You cannot load software on your BB. I use Windows/Parallels to accomplish that, so I can still do everything. It just takes a couple more steps.

I just got a BB Pearl, and found that it did not sync with bluetooth, so I went to apple.com and found information about PocketMac, so I downloaded it, but it has changed the appearance of my Finder, and doesn't sync iCal and Address Book... being in Canada (Rogers), will Missing Sync work for me? How do I uninstall PocketMac and get my Finder back to the way it was?
