So, I connected my sister's 80gb iPod Classic to her Gateway laptop (running Windows Vista) and the iPod showed up in the sidebar, as always, with the various subcategories (Movies, Music, etc) beneath it. I clicked on Music, but everything was greyed out. I could not click on any of them, play any songs, move them around, delete them from my iPod... nothing. They were all there and visible, just greyed out and unusable. The songs still play fine on the iPod itself, so I'm guessing there's a connection issue?? This just started happening the other day, it has never done this before and I didn't do anything (that I can think of) to cause this... I did install the new iPod update, however, but that was after this started, in an attempt to fix it.

Any ideas???

    I'm having this same problem.
    80gb ipod clasic
    G4 Powerbook
    itunes 7.6

I was wondering if it had something to do with the fact that I have 5 machines already authorized to play music purchased on my apple ID?

Anyone have an idea how to fix this problem? I like to play my music from my ipod through my itunes...

    Thanks

The songs are "greyed out" because you have the iPod set to transfer songs automatically. That is also why the padlock icon appears at the bottom of iTunes next to the space used/available.

If you want the songs to be bold and selectable/editable, then you need to change to manage the content manually.

Please note that by editing/changing the songs on your iPod in this manner, the changes will not affect the songs in iTunes, only on your iPod.
