imac 64-bit vista support for bootcamp and installation question

I'm not happy with Vista Ultimate 64-bit OEM version running under VMWare Fusion 1.1, so I've decided to remove it and try the bootcamp root. Painfully sluggish.

A couple of questions:
1) firstly is it completely necessary to use USB keyboard/mouse when using bootcamp to install? I have wireless mouse and keyboard right now. If yes can you use ANY wired keyboard/mouse - i.e. rather hten having to pay for another apple keyboard/mouse can I use a say DELL USB keyboard and MS Optical USB mouse just for the installation?
2) Has anybody installed 64-bit Ultimate Vista using bootcamp, I know about the recent support for mac pro with bootcamp and 64-bit vista but what about the new imac?? anybody tried it? works okay? caveats? documented procedures etc..?

tks for your replies

I'm going to make a guess that Apple wireless keyboard / mouse won't work because you'll need to have Bluetooth drivers loaded first. As far as the Dell keyboard, try it out first and see if it works at all. One thing that you're going to need is the Option key to work to get to the boot picker.

I've got Vista Enterprise x64 running via BootCamp on my MBP. The hardware seems to all work ok... Bluetooth, Wireless, Eject button an so on. Google will find you x64 BootCamp Windows drivers as well as the wireless drivers.

Ok ran bootcamp assistant and started installation of Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Came to the required input screens, i.e. select regional settings, enter license key etc..and apple bluetooth kb/mouse won't work..fine, no bluetooth drivers running so I plugged in my Dell USB k/b and MS intellimouse USB and both recognized and I am able to continue the installation - happy days.

finished installation and all seems fine, I've installed the 64bit drivers for bluetooth and now my apple bluetooth k/b and mouse work in both systems.

One issue which I haven't been able to fix yet and that is the graphics driver. There is an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT card on board with 256MB ram, the ATI site only has driver for Native Vista 64-bit (tried this several times but won't recognise my card just sees it as standard svga card). The ATI site only has driver for Bootcamp - XP 😟 ... does anybody know where i might find a bootcamp ATI driver for this card for Vista 64-bit ? other then this it's working perfectly..although I need the graphics drivers..

okay final update on this, I got my hands on the bootcamp64 installer and all the drivers and gave them a try. installed seamlessly no issues, just ran the bootcamp64.exe in Vista and rebooted. My ATI Radeon PRO (not XT as previously mentioned) was recognised and I have full 1920 x 1200 (or so) resolution.

Scores aren't too shabby either apart from the RAM (got 2GB only)

Processor 5.3
RAM 4.8
Graphics (AERO) 5.9
Graphics (Gaming) 5.3
H.Disk 5.5
