Hi, ex UK guy here, Harpenden home of the late & great Eric Morecombe..
Setting up OnyX is pretty easy, you have your Preferences & I just use the "broom logo" check all the boxes and off you go. The guy who built OnyX is a frenchman really nice guy & you can email him with any questions that you cannot resolve..L

Thanks for the quick reply elmac. But the broom icon is just the cleaning bit isn't it? What about all the other stuff - Verify / Maintenance etc? Even on the cleaning, I find it a bit confusing - do I really want to delete all these caches? Deleting cookies doesn't seem a good idea....etc.

Yes, Eric Morecombe's wife still lives here and we see her around the village sometimes.

Thanks for the help.

Hi, I'm not a tekky, I run the whole gambit once a month..even verifying, at one time it showed I had an issue, I repaired the issue & have every confidence in OnyX. Cache's & Cookies can be cleaned out as they refill themselves as you open websites etc. I'm sure George Peters can give you the tekky side of the discussion, but for me it works & I'm happy. All my Macs are on 24/7 as I run a Security Spy -a video surveillance system...L

I recently used the Onyx system to perform the maintenance and cleaning that recommends in order to keep my PowerBook (whose hard drive is nearing capacity and RAM maxed out) running at its best and prolong its life.
I would say that my knowledge of Macs is intermediate-advanced, but I was very anxious when selecting which caches it would clean, and which scripts it would run because I wasn't familiar with them. After running the recommended maintenance and cleaning, my 1.5GHz 2GB PowerBook slowed down significantly. Opening applications, logging into user accounts & basic navigation became very slow and VERY glitchy.
My understanding about caches is that they are basically shortcuts for the RAM to access when switching between programs - why would I want to get rid of that again? I would rather keep letting my hard drive fall below 10% availability than have what Onyx did to my computer. Maybe it's just my lack of knowledge.
