When you say it went grey I take it you could still see the slider? Could you see anything else on the startup screen, e.g. date and time, any picture you might have, and the network provider? It sounds like a temporary glitch to me. But if it happens again, try either rebooting the phone, by pressing both the top (sleep) and bottom (home) buttons together at the same time until the Apple logo appears, and then let go - this will clear any memory caches you might still have running in the background. And also possibly a restore from within iTunes.

That's what I couldn't understand from your first post: if it went completely grey, then how did you manage to access the slider?

Anyway, it seems that the problem has only occurred once for you? If it continues, then try the troubleshooting steps, particularly rebooting the iPhone (pressing both the top and bottom buttons until the Apple logo appears) or restoring the software in iTunes. If this doesn't help, and it gets worse, then it is time to take it back to the store for the Apple guys/girls to take a look at and consider giving you a replacement.

Hope this helps.
