Safari wont download

Hi
I have a friend who is unable to download anything via Safari. It seems to work fine otherwise, but the download manager never starts downloading. One of his friends who has no experience with Macs spent a bit of time messing around with various settings which is the problem I believe. I installed firefox but stupidly copied the settings across from Safari, so now Firefox wont download either. It is probably just a preference that has been setup incorrectly, but I can't work out what it is. It works fine for the other user account on the computer.
Also whenever he quits Safari he gets a message that "Safari quit unexpectedly"
Any help for either of these problems would be muchly appreciated.
Evan

Hi Evan

Might be a corrupted Downloads file, however, your comments about moving settings to Firefox has me a bit puzzled.

Let's stay with Safari: Go to the Finder: Your User Account>Library>Safari folder. There, move the Downloads.plist file to the trash, then restart Safari.

If it crashes, select "report" on the quit panel. Then, copy/paste the entire reports contents to the reply here.
