simultanious midi and audio recording?

Hi,

I'm fairly new to the logic program and to audio recording. In the old days we only had midi-recording. I want to make a recording with voice (audio) and keyboard (preferably midi and audio, but at least midi).
So how can i let logic express make a audio-recording while i also record the midi-data from my keyboard? At the same time, that is.

Thanks in advance, Leo

Thanks for your help. It works!
Question: Does this mean that in Logic Express you can record only 1 midi-instrument (hardware) at the same time as recording audio? Or can you record different midi-channels on that one track?
And while on the midi subject, is there any way to minimize the latency? In the cubase/atari era latency didn't seem to exist.

You can set the MIDI channel in the Parameters area to the left of the Arrange window to 'ANY' and if you send MIDI information on different channels it should record all (i.e. like a MIDI file type 0).

If you have a latency issue you need to change the buffer size in Core Audio 'Audio MIDI Setup' - generally speaking, the smaller size you can get away with the better.

Yes, you can record all 16 channels on one singlr MIDI track then use the command Demix (under the mini menu Region) to have them magically separated by MIDI channel.

If you have a drum track and you want to edit drums instruments separately you can demix by note too.

About latency, that can have several causes i.e. bad audio interfaces, bad drivers, slow MIDI interfaces (single or inside a keyboard), the fact that you are monitoring your audio through Logic etc.

The things to do to reduce the latency are:

1. go into Audio > Audio Hardware and Drivers and set I/O Buffer size to 128 (if you experiment pops and glitches then raise to 256);

2. if you use a synthesizer put in in MIDI local OFF when you use it with Logic.
