Time Machine.app won't launch

I am baffled by this one...I cannot get /Applications/Time Machine.app to launch. The Time Machine preference pane works fine and the backups to my exterior FireWire drive are working as they should every hour or so.

I have checked ownership and permissions on the file (root:admin (775)), I have repartitioned the backup drive (using a GUID partition table) and started over with my backups and I have deleted /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist.

I tried to open the app from Terminal and I checked all of my logs for any kind of entry. Nada.

What else can I do?

MacBook C2D, 2G RAM, 2.0GHz, Intel GMA 950, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

Is there a Time Machine icon in the Dock? The usual way of launching Time Machine is to open Finder, browse to the folder containing the file(s) you want to examine/restore, and then click Time Machine in the Dock.
