can someone help me get started?

Hello everyone. I recently got a Mac Book and am really liking GB. What I would like to do though is start using the virtual instruments and loops and trying my hand at electronic kinds of things. I know I'll need a decent midi controller, but can someone give me some pointers on all this. It's all new to me. Thanks.
