MacBook Pro can't read CD-RW

Does anybody else have this problem?

A friend burned me an audio CD on a Sony CD-RW that will play on a CD player, but can't be read at all on my computer. I insert the disc, and it gets spit out in about 1-15 seconds...

Anybody know any work arounds?

Hello, I don't know if this is you problem:

It seems some systems can't read any +R or +RW DVD discs. It has no problem with -R DVDs, however. While the +R and +RW DVDs burn successfully in my iMac and MacBook (as MacOS or Mac/PC hybrid), the older iBook just spits them out. The same for -RW on some models of MacBook, MacBook Pro.

The SR8176 Matshita drive may not be compatible with such media. This is not all computers, just some. It's difficult to tell. There are 3rd party software that helps. Toast is popular.

Have you been able to read that media in the past? Look at your system profiler, it will tell you what media can be read and write. If not it's on the Apple Support pages.

Good Luck,

Ray

hi, thanks for the response. I'm using a relatively new macbook pro. It can do the whole cd/dvd r/rw scheme, but it doesn't seem to like these CD rewriteables. It has read/burned cds and dvds fine otherwise. These unreadable CDs are, btw, sony. Not cheap-brands. I'm gonna try resetting the pram and see if that gets me anywhere...
