Hebrew and Mac Mail

Does mac mail support Hebrew? We've tried, but we can't get it to write from right to left. We've had to create a Hebrew Document in Mellel and then save it as a PDF. Then, it's uneditible. Any suggestions or do we need another email program that will support Hebrew and right to left? Any suggestions?

Mail supports Hebrew just fine. Go to system prefs/international/input menu and check the box for Hebrew, plus the box for "show input menu in Finder," then select it in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder and type away. The direction of the text should certainly be correct.

Or is your problem actually that you want lines to start at the right?

However, we want to start our lines at the right. Is that possible?

I am away from OS X temporarily and don't know whether you can select right justification in Mail's rich text mode, or whether if you could that it would actually appear correctly at the other end.

If you need your text formatted this way for the recipient, then you may be better off sending them a word processor doc as an attachment. OS X word processors that can do formatted Hebrew are TextEdit, Mellel, Nisus Writer Express, AbiWord, and NeoOffice/J (not MS Office or AppleWorks).

You can set the writing direction to RTL:
1. Creat a new letter.
2. position the cursor in the body of the letter
3. CTRL+Click with the mouth
4. From the contextual menu select - Writing Direction - Right to Left

Yes, Apple hide this command but it is working the same on Panther.
Also, change the font in Mail Preferences - Fonts & Colors so that the fonts will be Lucida Grande and not Helvetica (a small bug…)
