I press and hold the play button and my ipod won't shut off. The hold switch is definitely not on. I haven't tried to "reset" it yet. Does this erase all songs/data/info? Will this help my problem?

I would suggest resetting your iPod first and seeing if that doesn't fix your problem. When I had to reset my iPod, I didn't lose my songs, but I did have to go back and reset preferences such as volume, EQ, backlight, etc.
I have the same problem. How do i reset the ipod. I'm not sure. Thanks david
Anyone solve this issue? Mine's been like this since October. 😟
I've had this problem for ages. Appears to happen on most models of Ipods as well so I'm assuming its a design fault that Apple can't be arsed to fix.
Anyhow, the only solution I've found is to have music playing. Remove the headphones from the jack, plug them back in (the music is paused at this point) and then you can regain control over the ipod and switch it off.

Hi,
To reset your iPod just hold down the Centre and Play buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears on the screen.

And you know this how?
Well, I'd assume it does purely based on myself owning 4 different IPods in total and having another 3 in the house. Plus people at work moaning about the issue.
From my own experience, thats at least 10 ipods with this issue.
