Feb 1, 2008 5:58 AM in response to Andy Mooreby Texas Mac Man,You could if it has the optional 28.8k modem, but it would be v e r r y s l o w. You would probably need to upgrade the OS to 9.x so you could use a somewhat modern browser.

Feb 1, 2008 7:44 PM in response to Andy Mooreby Jan Hedlund,PC Cards (16-bit PCMCIA, not 32-bit CardBus) can be handled by the PowerBook 5300c. This makes it possible to use various modems (up to 56 kbps).
You could also connect a serial modem to the Modem-Printer Port.
Another option would be a PC Card or serial connection to a mobile phone.
A normal web browser (e.g. iCab) will work, but slowly. The text-based WannaBe browser is very fast. For email, an older version of Eudora can be used.
System 7.5.3 (downloadable from Apple) contains the TCP/IP software needed, but a separate PPP (dial-up) program (MacPPP 2.5.3, also downloadable) will have to be installed.
Alternatively, you could try a WiFi PC Card. That would allow you to connect to a wireless network.
