Q: Powerbook 5300c

Can I go online with a 5300c?

imac G5 20; 1gig RAM; 300HD; airport; bluetooth keyboard, mouse; bose companion, Mac OS X (10.5.1)

    You could if it has the optional 28.8k modem, but it would be v e r r y s l o w. You would probably need to upgrade the OS to 9.x so you could use a somewhat modern browser.

    PC Cards (16-bit PCMCIA, not 32-bit CardBus) can be handled by the PowerBook 5300c. This makes it possible to use various modems (up to 56 kbps).

    You could also connect a serial modem to the Modem-Printer Port.

    Another option would be a PC Card or serial connection to a mobile phone.

    A normal web browser (e.g. iCab) will work, but slowly. The text-based WannaBe browser is very fast. For email, an older version of Eudora can be used.

    System 7.5.3 (downloadable from Apple) contains the TCP/IP software needed, but a separate PPP (dial-up) program (MacPPP 2.5.3, also downloadable) will have to be installed.

    Alternatively, you could try a WiFi PC Card. That would allow you to connect to a wireless network.
